The company now known as Excelsior Monuments Inc was established in1881 by the Rigg family, named Rigg Memorial and held for three generations then sold by William Rigg. It was located at 163 Pitt St. Windsor & named Excelsior Granite & Marble Works and briefly owned by a couple proprietors then moved to Tecumseh, Ontario in 1963.
Don Lappan senior (former Mayor of the Town of Tecumseh) purchased it to learn the trade in 1973 and worked to improve the company's quality and reputation. Today it remains in the Lappan family with three children, Don, Jeanette & William carrying on with their father's ideals as they grew to learn the timely skills of stone carving and engraving to produce the highest quality monuments in Essex County.

Why does the cemetery make me feel like I can only buy from them? Cemeteries are in business to make a profit and when they lose potential customers, they do not make money. It is not unheard of that a cemetery will use tactics to dissuade a customer from purchasing from an outside dealer. Will the cemetery accept a headstone purchased from you?
