The divorce is perhaps the simplest and least expensive service a lawyer can provide. Obtaining a divorce means that you are no longer married. You may obtain a divorce before entering into a separation agreement or before settling your other issues: child custody or support, spousal support; ownership or possession or property; debts, estate matters and other rights.

They have you sign a Participation Agreement. That Agreement is a contract signed by both clients and both lawyers, agreeing among other terms, not to go to court. Family and Financial Professionals, who are or become part of the team, also sign the Agreement. Immediate settlement meetings designed to get the best possible result, are the core of the process.

If you do not have one your estate will be divided according to provincial intestacy laws, which may not reflect your wishes. Property would pass to your next of kin without regard for your fondness for certain people, and not to non-blood relatives, your common-law spouse or charities.

You will have the freedom to choose a guardian (custodian) for your minor children, a trustee of their money and specify at which age they will receive their inheritance.If you marry, your Will is automatically revoked unless it specifies that it is made in contemplation of a forthcoming marriage.

What is it? It is a legal document to give another person legal authority to make decisions about their finances and property, (not about their personal health or care) if they become unable to make those decisions themselves.

It may be used when you vacation and the attorney may pay your bills, buy items for you from your account (such as medical supplies or nursing home/retirement home fees) deposit your cheques, do your tax return, safeguard your valuables, make a loan, or anything you may legally do with your finances, except sign your Will.Basically, your attorney "steps into your shoes".
