The Academy of Music was founded by Shawn and Donna Coughlin in 1990 offering in home instruction on the piano and guitar throughout the city of Winnipeg. Since then, it has expanded to offer on line music instruction and now includes voice, drums strings, brass & woodwind lessons! Shawn operates the company's day to day operations acting as the companies music director having 40 years of teaching experience!
He was classically trained through the Royal Conservatory of Music piano program and is also well versed in jazz and contemporary styles. Shawn is also a former junior high and high school music teacher, a professional pianist, accompanist, composer, choir director as well as a certified piano tuner technician!

As we celebrate our 30th anniversary during these unprecedented times, we would like to offer you your first on-line lesson for free! Online lessons are more convenient. The Academy of Music has been offering quality in-home music lessons since 1990. During these unprecedented times we are taking steps to ensure the safety our students and teachers by following provincial health guidelines including washing hands before each lesson, practicing physical distancing and wearing PPE.
The Academy of Music is now offering private lessons in studio. Please check your area in our locations tab to see if there is an Academy of Music studio near you. Lessons are one on one and we follow the current recommended safety guidelines regarding washing of hands, physical distancing and cleaning of instruments between lessons.
