Services
A group of 14 law students at the University of Alberta were inspired by the student assistance clinics emerging in Canada and the United States, and decided to start their own. In the first four months, SLS handled over 100 cases ranging from criminal matters to welfare and tenancy disputes. Since the Summer of '69, SLS has grown, developed, and made history in both the City of Edmonton and Canada.
The Civil Law Project has been a part of Student Legal Services since 1969 and has helped thousands of people in the Edmonton area who were not able to afford a lawyer. We also have various legal information booklets available online. Whether or not we can help you will depend on your income and the nature of the legal issue.
The Legal Education and Reform Project has been the backbone of Student Legal Services since its beginnings in 1969. Its mandate is to provide legal information to the general public in a way that makes the legal system more accessible and serves the needs of the low-income community in a holistic manner.
The Special Initiatives Project runs various community partnership initiatives and clinical projects. Aimed at building accessible legal services, the Special Initiatives Project is dynamic and constantly growing. If your organization would like to propose a project in partnership with us, please contact our Special Initiatives Coordinator by calling the phone number below.

This place is located inside the University of Alberta in an old fashioned cottage or house. The staffs working here are very welcoming. They are definitely doing a great job helping people by providing the right information. My experience was superb when I was there. Students at the university work here under the guidance of professionals. This place is good especially for those who have low income as they provide them free services. To learn more about legal matters, you may come and visit the place. I would definitely recommend this place.

This is the absolute best place to go if you are in a "legal limbo." A thousand times better than legal aid. These students are actually passionate about law and justice.

Don't bother calling these guys. It doesn't matter what you ask... Do you need to provide precedents, if the deadline to file is on the weekend do you have until Monday? Procedural stuff. They can't answer.
They are useless and a waste of time.
