Born in Prague, in the Czech Republic, Ivan Hoetzel has been working in wood since his childhood, when his father introduced him to the art of woodworking. After Ivan's family emigrated to Canada, his interest in working with wood grew into a successful home-building partnership, and in 1986 Ivan realized his dream of creating an artisan furniture-making business which combined his passion for local wood to his love of outdoor living.
Classic Cedar was established in 1986. It's primary markets have been Vancouver and Victoria BC, Canada but with the development of easy and economical shipping, Classic Cedar now services all of North America with major developing markets in Edmonton AL, Calgary AL and Toronto ON.

We just received 6 King Size Club Chairs and 4 lounge chairs. Shipping was fast. Communication with the owner was great. The chairs were easy to assemble and the quality of the chairs are incredible. We looked extensively for furniture and so much of which is cheap overpriced plastic/synthetic that won't last. These chairs are solid, the hardware is ideal.

Sitting out enjoy the chair I bought for my husband 23 years ago on Fathers Day. Needs a little sanding and another coat of Sikkens but still fabulous. I decided to google and see if they were still in business. So happy to be able to order another chair and bench.

I ordered two Adirondack chairs last year, and was so impressed with their comfort, quality and appearance that I ordered two more this year. Ivan is easy to communicate with, fast, reliable and turns out a beautifully crafted product. I know that these chairs will last a very long time, and will be treasured for years to come. Last year we were struggling to find the right type of chair in terms of looks and comfort, and I am so glad we didn't end up choosing the currently popular coloured plastic ones. I feel good about choosing natural wood, and these were the most comfortable of all the chairs

Ivan supplied a beautiful table and chairs for our busy Tofino vacation rental. The outdoor furniture survived the wet environment and the rugged treatment for 13 years. We recently replaced the furniture and brought the old set home for minor repairs and refinishing. We are using the restored set at home and are looking forward to another 13 years of use.

We couldn't be happier with the furniture that we ordered from Classic Cedar. We ordered a 45" sofa, a 60 " sofa and 2 arm chairs and benches that can double as a coffe table or side table. They are beautifully crafted, finished and stained and very sturdy without being (or looking) too heavy. Ivan is a fine craftsman and the minimal assembly from the shipping boxes, very straightforward.

Five years ago, we ordered and received a tea house from Classic Cedar - unassembled - shipped all the way to Ontario. Ivan sent along very detailed instructions in how to assemble it - and together with friends were able to put it up without a problem. We also ordered
furniture - love seat, bench and Tête-à-Tête (again, easy to assemble) they were a perfect finish for the tea house.
It has been a wonderful addition to our property - we spend many afternoons and evenings in our tea house - everyone remarks on the beauty of the tea house.
