Have been taking my pets to Birchwood Animal Hospital for fifteen years. The Vets and staff at Birchwood are outstanding. They are compassionate and always take time to answer all of my questions. I have been through serious health crisis with some of my pets over the years and Dr. Robertson has always been compassionate and truthful even when the news was difficult.
Her honest advise helped me make some of the best decisions for my pet even though it was difficult and painful. I have also had Dr. Preston take care of my pets and she has also been wonderful. Services
Birchwood Animal Hospital is the oldest small animal practice in west Winnipeg and the second oldest in the province. It was founded in 1959 by Dr. Elmer Clark, who retired in 1994. Dr. Philipp Schott joined the practice in 1990, followed by Dr. Andrea Robertson in 2000, Dr. Jillian Preston in 2002, Dr. Brad Safiniuk in 2004, Dr. Leanne Boyd in 2007, Dr. Stacey Hannah in 2012, and Dr. Melissa Cavanagh in 2021.
As a member of your pet's health care team, it is our objective to partner with you to provide the level of healthcare you expect in veterinary medicine. The goal of our team is to deliver client satisfaction in the form of client education and exceptional pet care all while exceeding your service expectations.
We are happy to help with your pet care needs - book an appointment, answer your questions and make you feel at home. Our hospital is stocked with a substantial quantity of over-the-counter products that we believe are ideal for your pet. This includes specialized shampoos, dental products, nutritional supplements, treats, ear cleaners, hairball remedies and more.
3. Should your pet require hospitalization, you will be provided with an estimate and consent for medical services which will require your signature for approval. If additional medical care is recommended, we will inform you of associated costs prior to performing such services. 4. Pet insurance policy holders will be reimbursed by the insurance company after submitting a claim form for paid services.

I took my dog Pete in for shots and a checkup recently. The covid protocols were in place for "curbside" pickup etc. The doctor was very thorough, friendly, and compassionate. He described options for Pete's care and did not try to "up-sell" treatments that were probably not ideal for Pete's age and condition.

Birchwood Animal Hospital is a top notch business. They treat the animals with compassion and love. We have seen several different vets with our animals and they have all been fantastic and caring. When we had to put our lab down last August, they were very gentle and allowed us the time we needed with her. Highly recommend.

The staff at Birchwood Animal hospital are caring people. They care about their clients and their pets very well. We have dealt with them with our previous dog Star and now with our Lucy. Both Golden Retrievers. The vets provide knowledgeable care and answer any questions. The sympathy card that we received when our Star had to be euthanized was a surprise and brought comfort at a very difficult time. Thank you for all you do!

Have to acknowledge the friendliness of the office staff. To a person they greeted Stella on arrival which calms her when nervous about being in a new place. And I must admit Dr Robertson is a special type of vet. She was so focused on Stella and made such a fuss that my dog was completely relaxed during her examination. Haven't had a vet as caring as her since our last pet years ago.

Birchwood is absolutely amazing. My dog came in after she got cut at the groomer. They took such good care of her, and the vet himself even checked in afterwards via email. Their fees are more than reasonable, and they even have a "quick follow up" fee, which is great when it's an ongoing issue. The vet even analysed my dogs cells under a microscope at no extra fee, to make sure it wasn't yeast/bacterial. My dog is my kid, and I trust them 100%. Front staff is also incredible! Super kind and understanding. Love Birchwood Animal Hospital!

BEST animal hospital in Winnipeg. I let go of my 11 years ver beacuse when my 5 month old pup got a bad allergy and they are the only hospital that responded to me and the vet call me right away to offer help and advice me what I can do from home and what medication I can give..the dr even call me next day to see how puppy is doing. And didnt even… charge me anything. That's how much they care for pets. Dr went above and beyond to help my baby. Answersd all the questions I had. THE staff is amazing very helpful and caring. The pricess are very responsible. We are so lucky to have this amazing

The entire staff are some of the most caring, kind, hard-working, and intelligent people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. We couldn't ask for better care for our dog, and even when they are crazily busy they take the time to treat her with patience and top-quality care. Thank you all for being amazing!

We had our 13-month old Retriever neutered recently and Dr. Boyd took the time to explain how to care for him afterward and what we should watch for should there be any issues. The staff at the front are also very caring and patient. We take our cat to Birchwood Animal Hospital too. He's not nearly as fond of visiting the vet, but everyone treats him with care and empathy.

We have recently changed vets and now go to Birchwood Animal Hospital! We have had wonderful experiences! The staff is so friend and sweet to our dogs. We have seen 2 vets who are both very friendly, great at communicating and listening. We really feel everyone at this vet cares for our dogs the way we want them to be cared for.

The smiles and warm attitudes and compassion make them incredibly easy to deal with, even in tough situations. We had our oldest cat (18.5 yrs) there yesterday (and her sister last year for the same heartbreaking thing🌈),… and Dr. Robertson was amazing as always. She knows how to keep a positive mood while still being genuine in her empathy, even when delivering grim realities. I'm forever grateful for her and I will always try to book with her where I can

I have been taking my dog there his whole life (13 years), and have never had an experience as bad as this. What started off as a small cyst two months ago (to which we were told by Dr. Safinuk that it wasn't cancerous or should grow) did indeed grow and tripled in size. We were advised to go through with surgery with Dr. Bebchuk which was quoted at triple the cost of our original quote, and we were told he would possibly lose his eye (this was after we took him to another vet who said his eye was perfectly fine and the growth had to come off).
