Services
At TVEH, our Neurologist, Dr. Andrew Barker, have extensive experience managing a wide range of neurological conditions. Brain, spinal cord and neuromuscular disorders occur in dogs and cats, just as in humans. Pets can develop a variety of problems, including epilepsy, disc disease, spinal cord and head trauma, meningitis and cancer.
General anesthesia is often necessary to allow diagnostic or therapeutic procedures in our animal patients. This carries an inherent risk which, while low, is increased when a patient is critically ill or elderly. Having dedicated personnel with specialty anesthesia training reduces risk, and can ease the concerns of pet owners when their pet must undergo a medical or surgical procedure.
Internists focus on diagnosing and treating diseases of the body's internal systems such as the gastrointestinal tract and liver; endocrine system; cardiac, respiratory and urinary systems. As in people, a great number of medical disorders can affect our pets, including infection, immune disorders, and cancer.
Our diagnostic imaging service is fully staffed with a board-certified radiologist in hospital 6 days a week (Monday to Saturday). The Diagnostic Imaging service at TVEH helps investigate patients' problems by using a number of techniques, including radiography, ultrasonography and cross-sectional imaging (computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)).
The TVEH Surgery department team is dedicated to helping when your pet needs the skilled hands of a knowledgeable and experienced surgeon. Our three surgeons: Dr. Carl Porter, Dr. Mitch Gillick and Dr. Scott Joudrey, offer a complete range of surgical services, specializing in both soft tissue and orthopedic procedures.

I have been to this hospital a few times for my dog and had excellent service. Last night we took him after an attack to have his bleeding eye examined. Waited 3.5hrs in the parking lot. We called on our way to the hospital to advise the situation and that we were coming and told to call once we arrived. Called upon arrival, told to wait for a call back. Wait and wait, called a few times. The final call after 3.5 hrs (11:30pm) we were told they aren't doing triage anymore and did anyone speak to us. We were not spoken to. I advised the situation with my dog (again) and they got a vet technician

Thank you to the entire staff at this amazing hospital who did everything they could to make our boy Bruce, and us, feel as comfortable as we could in a scary situation. Having lost a previous fur baby tragically not too long ago… they understood our fear/concern and looked after Bruce until he could be seen by the vet. The vet ( I’m so sorry I… forget your name- I think it started with an S) was soooo wonderful and made us feel so comfortable, even from just the phone convo ( Covid protocols). Bruce is home and we believe on the mend now…. Just can’t say thank

Thank you so much to Dr. Hoffman and the entire TVEH team for taking care of our Peggy this holiday season! I know that many people may think that the stomach surgery Peggy underwent is routine; however, for us it was an exceptionally stressful and worrisome situation, and we are so glad that Peggy was able to receive the care from Dr. Hoffman, Dr. Martin, Dr. Avellaneda, and the team at TVEH. Thank you again for your care, patience, and support!

My little baby Seymour came to TVEH to see Dr. Patten and the oncology team. Although my baby's diagnosis was not the outcome we wanted (darn you sarcoma) Dr. Patten was very compassionate and honest with his insight and answers for us. Even though we only had one visit here before palliating my sweet baby (since his cancer was so aggressive) we were very lucky we ad the experience with them. Thank you for giving me the answers that Seymour and I were looking for.

Great, friendly, knowledgeable staff. They work hard to make sure your pets are comfortable when you can’t be with them.
Dr. Wainberg and team are extremely thorough and really go the extra steps to ensure your animal is properly diagnosed and cared for. We know our dog received the best treatment . We would gladly be referred back should he ever need it.

I would like to commend the staff at TVEH. I recently took my 13 yr old Golden for a consult regarding a sarcoma. The staff showed such professionals and compassion for my dog and me. Sadly nothing could be done for her but I received such comprehensive discussion as to my options. My sincere gratitude to Dr AshleySpenser and technician Elise for all their care and compassion.

My poor little girl was attacked Friday night by 2 larger dogs. I took her into the emergency vet clinic in Barrie who were helpful letting me know she needed a drain…etc. I decided to transfer my dog to TVEH because I have gone to them previously. Immediately they took my little Nala in and kept communicating for every step of the way. They would keep me updated with how long they believe she would be. I knew she was well taken care of. Every time I called the front desk they were professional, very kind and understanding. She had 7 puncture wounds, required a drain, pain medication and antibiotics

Thank you for a positive experience especially being a first time pet owner. I was worried for my puppy that I just got that September long weekend who had kennel cough. The vet clinics were closed for the long weekend. I called the Vet Emergency late Sunday night as my puppy felt feverish and breathing very fast; I was placed on the call back list, they called me Monday morning and I brought my pup in for 10:15am was done by 12pm. The staff was helpful, Dr was very thorough in explaining how to care for my pup, explained the medication and gave canned food as samples. The fee was very reasonable

Our experience with Dr. Melanie Dickerson was very good. Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital is a very busy clinic but their service was prompt, efficient and caring.
Our 15-year-old cat Felix had been vomiting and not eating properly for quite a while and our regular vet’s blood testing didn’t provide any conclusive results. We were advised to see an internal medicine specialist and got an appointment with Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital for a couple weeks later.
The clinic was very busy when I arrived for the appointment but they admitted Felix quite quickly. I discussed Felix’s

Worst Hospital!!!! Waited for 8 hours and no one chose to check on my dog. Called us to come back after 4 hours and still waited for 4 hours!!!!???!!! And we just left. I’m fed up. They didn’t want to check my dog right away because he is alive, can walk and bark but my dog literally having difficulty breathing, his tongue is swollen and they said they have to take those critical dogs that needs cpr and all. What about my dog??????? Just because he can walk ?! They said he’s okay?! And doesn’t need medical attention right away

New to the city and was referred to this clinic by a local vet. Was pitched that it was out of my area but worth the drive and I love my dog. Initial intake call person was rude, which was surprising but brushed it off because of the referral. We have waited over six weeks for an appointment with the specialist. Had previously called to ask if the… appointments were generally on time and was told it would depend if there was an emergency. Planned the drive but still got stuck in traffic on the DVP, called them to let them know GPS estimated time. Desk agent said fine and then called back

Amazing staff. They were caring and gentle. The doctor was patient with my over-anxious pup & even though we got there at 2am in middle of COVID, they let us stay with our dog all night & comfort her. Great value and did not do unnecessary tests. I will always go back there if there is another emergency.

Your after hours team are simply amazing! You guys were so fast, efficient and your pricing was beyond fair! Staff took the time to explain procedures, pricing and saw our puppy Boba very quickly. The doctor… took the time to explain things after seeing her. For our first time ever needing a after hours vet, you made the whole process a lot less scary. Thank You for all that you do, you all rock! (I'm happy to report that Boba is doing much better)

My primary veterinarian referred me to TVEH for my 14.5 years old dog who has kidney disease, she recommended immediate fluid therapy after her bloodwork showed her kidney functions were elevated in addition to her refusal to eat. I called approximately two hours before I arrived at the hospital to ensure my dog would be seen and accepted as a patient. I am glad I did as I wouldn't have wanted to wait in the parking lot for hours with my highly anxious dog who is already not feeling well. Due to COVID restrictions, when we called to tell them we have arrived - they took my dog from one of the zones

Even though our puppy girl Cinnamon passed away at 9 months, she was given the best care possible by the team there. They communicated everything possible and kept us in the loop and when we went to say goodbye, they presented her beautifully. We are forever grateful of the staff here, they did absolutely everything possible.

Our experience with the Toronto Vet Hospital was excellent. We had to bring our Doberman in on Thursday night with Bloat. This was immediately treated like the emergency that it was and our dog received exceptional care from start to finish. Every time I have had to use this service with any of our pets our experience has been perfect. Thank you!
