Conflict is a fact of life. Studies show conflict is necessary for evolution and growth. It is not about whether there will be conflict in your life - it's all about how to resolve the inevitable conflict that arises. At Resolution Place we specialize in conflict resolution. At Resolution Place we offer mediation services for all types of situations that may arise in your family, your neighbourhood or your workplace.
Susan Kurtz of Resolution Place in Nelson BC is qualified as an Arbitrator under the Arbitration Act of BC. Arbitration gives you a binding result that is fast, fair and final, in addition to being private. Do you want to learn how to consciously uncouple? Collaborative Practice is a respectful and compassionate team approach to family conflict resolution.

Services
Susan Kurtz, the founder of Resolution Place, is experienced in all areas of litigation based on her years of practice as a lawyer first in Alberta since 1988, then in British Columbia. Because of her experience before the courts, Susan is a firm believer that collaborative practice, and mediation and arbitration are healthier choices for conflict resolution for almost everybody.
Collaborative practice is about helping families restructure through separation and divorce in a healthy and positive way. The collaborative process helps you find a way to support your kids in a non adversarial way and how to communicate with each other in a respectful manner. In the collaborative model, each party retains his or her own collaborative lawyer and all 4 sign a Participation Agreement.
At Resolution Place we are interested in protecting children by reducing tension, animosity and uncertainty between parents. We do this by offering ways to get to a final and binding resolution that do not involve the time and cost of the court process. Once you have reached agreement on all terms, we will draft your Separation Agreement for a fee of $1,500 plus taxes.
At Resolution Place we offer a flat rate fee of $2000 to get your divorce order including all legal fees, court fees and taxes. About 50% of marriages in Canada today do not involve matrimony. These are the so called common law marriages. When a marriage ends, whether there has been matrimony or not, the legal issues need to be resolved by Separation Agreement.
If you have decided to uncouple from your spouse, and you want to clarify and resolve the legal issues between the two of you, then you are ready to start on the path toward a separation agreement. Making the decision to separate might be one of the most difficult decisions you will ever make. If you have decided to uncouple, you need a Separation Agreement to resolve all the legal issues between the two of you.

We used Susan for our separation agreement and she had it done in time even with an emergency law session in between. We found the background of law informative and helped us pick the easiest and cheapest way forward. Worked great for us and in a week. Thanks!

Susan handled both my separation and divorce, and the experience and outcome exceeded my expectations. And it was such a pleasure to work with a lawyer who was primarily interested in NOT going to court! We could use a few more like Susan out there.

I hired susan to represent me in my divorce..she was professional, well informed and compassionate to my needs..she tried her best to resolve my conflict without breaking me financially and getting a resolution the cheapest way possible . I couldn't pay her in full so she was patient and empathic and allowed me to pay as much as I could and even deferred a monthly payment at Christmas so I could enjoy Christmas..professional., strong, well educated, compassionate and not only a good lawyer as well a good person .I would defenitely hire her if I needed help again

I’m seeking a family lawyer and she talked to me very ignorantly. Told me I most likely couldn’t afford a consultation (little does know, I can afford a lawyer, hence why I’m looking for one). Then proceeded to tell me that I’m not going get to get the help I need. I asked her to please stop talking so rudely to me, then she hung up on me. Very ignorant lady. Do not recommend.

Susan was very professional to deal with. Not only did she help me navigate a separation agreement, but made it understandable as to why they are written they way they are. I found my time and money well spent with her and it was nice to have her in Nelson since there are no family law lawyers in Creston. Thank you for your time and patience, Susan.

Paid thousands for mediation and a simple settlement agreement which was full of errors. Susan refused to meet with us to fix the agreement and we ended up having to start over with another lawyer. She does all the talking, eating up expensive hours, and doesn't listen. HUGE waste of time and money. Go elsewhere!!!

Susan will not waste your time. She is direct and honest about what family matters cost. Her counsel immediately moved me from a place of wallowing in self pity over the loss of my family to a place of self care where I am taking steps to take proper care of myself and my children. This is priceless. She practices collaborative law and will encourage you not to go to court and waste money. This too is priceless for families in turmoil.

This lawyer was not ready for our appointment. We had to wait while she finished secretarial work. Most of the $300 consultation hour was a repeat of basic information already posted on the website. Asked twice, to take the time to look over the documents and summary we provided, the meeting carried on with a sales pitch for $2000 to write up a simple separation agreement. Because she only reviewed our paperwork at the very end, she did not discover until then that a separation agreement was not the proper process to follow. Condescending, not a good listener. Definitely steer clear. Waste of time

Susan was incredibly helpful. She was extremely quick to respond. She gave me practical options to consider, and set realistic expectations about what a lawsuit would look like. She was even kind enough to respond quickly to a couple of follow up questions I had via email. Susan is personable, kind and empathetic while being incredibly practical and professional. I cannot say enough good things about Susan! She really helped me feel at peace and helped me move on to a better future.
