Alternatives is a community-based mental health agency located in the East End of Toronto. Our philosophy is grounded in the belief that every individual has self-worth and potential. Everyone is entitled to live with dignity and self-determination. We recognize and consider the context of an individual's life within the parameters of their psychological, economic, spiritual and physical realities.
Defined as a deeply personal, unique process of changing one's attitudes, values, feelings, goals, skills and/ or roles. It is a way of living a satisfying, hopeful, and contributing life even with limitations caused by the mental health challenge. Recovery involves the development of new meaning and purpose in ones life as one grows beyond the catastrophic effects of Mental Illness.
Adults living with significant mental health issues requiring support and over 16 years of age. Broadview Avenue east to Warden Avenue, and Lakeshore Boulevard north to Eglinton Avenue, in Toronto (see map). We are part of the centralized intake process with The Access Point. Most mental health and addictions programs in the city now have The Access Point as the first step of the intake process.
