Expression which tends to lower a person's reputation in the estimation of right-thinking members of society generally, or to expose a person to hatred, contempt or ridicule, is defamatory. Expression which would cause a person to be shunned or avoided is also defamatory. Defamation law engages two basic values in Canadian democracy - protection of reputation and freedom of expression.

I submitted an inquiry online and was contacted by Mr. Alan McConchie, who then took his time to explain to me over the phone what my options are. Because my problem involved jurisdictional issues with the USA, he referred me to US lawyers who might be able to help. Overall I was impressed with Mr. McConchie's candid response to my concerns. I would highly recommend him to anyone who might need his services.
