An important part of a patient's first appointment to a hygienist is the examination of the head and neck. The registered dental hygienist will be checking to see if these tissues are normal or if there are any conditions requiring further investigation.

Approximately 84 percent of oral cancer cases may detected early by a dental professional. Screening for oral cancer is quick and easy, with no pain or discomfort involved.
A periodontal examination involves checking the gums and supporting structures of the teeth. First, your dental hygienist will look at the gums for signs of redness or puffiness. She may poke them gently to see how easily they bleed. Bleeding gums is a sign of inflammation and indicate gum disease caused by bacteria.

Inga was most gracious in fitting us in to her schedule and did an amazing job making them feel at home and taken care of. I made a recent visit to Competitive Dental Hygiene Clinic, and glad that I did. Inga, the dental hygienist, did a thorough cleaning and exam. Her professional attitude and service was very much appreciated, as with her pricing, which is excellent for those without a dental plan. I recommend her highly.
