Merlot Restaurant offers traditional French bistro cuisine, with a menu that stretches from dishes typical of south-western France such as duck confit or cassoulet, to those of northern France including pate de campagne and escalope de veau au calvados. Since opening its doors in 1998, Chef Alain Rechter and his hard-working and professional team has made Merlot the successful restaurant that it strives to be.

The ambiance was wonderful but I thought the food was a bit pricey for what we got. The sauce for the tortellini was ok. I think the pasta was grocery store quality (hard, not a lot of filling) after my first glass of wine I wasn't asked if I wanted another. The staff just took my glass and I had no drink beyond that. My partner got the veal and said it was ok.

Came with a friend a few weeks back. I had the provimi calf liver Lyonnaise, which was excellent. Cooked medium, the thinly sliced pieces were tender and flavourful. I thoroughly enjoyed the creme brulee, but what caused me to give this five stars was the house coffee. I take mine black and, after so many coffees in other places that were meh, Merlot's coffee was delicious; a perfect companion for the crunchy/creamy cream brulee. The service was impeccable and I appreciated the tastefully designed barriers between the tables. I'll definitely be back.

We hosted a wedding rehearsal dinner last night up on the patio rooftop. Without exception, everyone of us (16) , enjoyed the ambiance, service and most of all the wonderful food. My wife have been going to Merlot for many years (allowing for the Covid break) and we cannot recommend this restaurant more! Thank you Francois, Maria and staff for a lovely evening!

Over the past couple of years, this has been our favourite restaurant for a nice evening out - and we live 30 minutes away. We love the ambiance, the food has always been very good, the staff nicely balance attentiveness with allowing us our space, and the prices are quite good. My wife cannot eat garlic, and only a few things that are either slow-cooked or marinated end up on the exclusion list, which says that most dishes are prepared fresh.

A Parisian retreat at the corner of Royal York and Bloor. Adorned like you would a Parisian cafe, the owners who were actually originally from Normandy adds authentic French flair to this west Toronto neighborhood with dishes like moules frites, salmon quiches, nicoise salads, etc.
The setting has an upscale feel to it with outdoor and rooftop seating when the weather warrants. Good wine and dessert selection as well. A solid choice for French food in the city. Green P parking is just behind on Willmington, Royal York station is a close 3 min walk away.
