At E.J. Coutu, times have changed but our commitment to service and excellence has not. Founded by Philippe Coutu Senior in 1895, four generations of the Coutu family have dedicated themselves to the community we serve. Our exceptional staff has more than 100 years of combined experience and can adapt to any special requirements your family has.
Our Winnipeg funeral home mandate is to ensure professional dedicated service to honour your loved one at a fair and reasonable price. We are a family owned funeral home with a 125 year history of serving the community that offers affordable funeral services. We do not employ commissioned sales people, and have no quotas to meet.

Services
The Coutu family history in funeral service dates back to 1895 when Philippe Coutu Senior opened up the original Coutu Funeral Home across from the Norwood Hotel on Marion St. Our original Coutu Funeral Home was a combination of a furniture store, funeral home and ambulance service for the St. Boniface area.
Every day, we receive thank you notes and cards from the families we've served. Each of these heartfelt messages about our end-of-life care means more to us than we can express. It affirms the fact that we are doing what we set out to do when we opened the doors of E.J. Coutu & Co.: help families celebrate, pay tribute to, and commemorate a loved one with compassionate care, and the highest-quality professionalism.
When it comes time to care for a deceased loved one, you may feel overwhelmed and confused about the next steps and options. Our funeral home staff members are here and ready to help. Whether you'd like a funeral or a more creative celebration of life, we can assist you to select the funeral service options that hold the most meaning for you and your family.
Obituaries act as quiet reminders of the finite nature of our lives. Yet, for those who have recently experienced the death of a family member or friend, an obituary means so much more. It is a bittersweet reminder of all we've lost, but it can also help us to remember all we enjoyed while they were alive.
All we need to do is say the word "funeral" and within microseconds, you have an image in your mind of what a funeral looks like. This mental image comes from many sources: the geographical place, culture and society in which we live; our faith; our life experience.
Obviously then, a funeral service in Borneo would look very different from one held in Tanzania; there are even significant differences between the funerals held in ethnically and/or geographically diverse regions of North America.Yet, despite the differences, these funeral services have much in common.

If I could give more than 5 stars I certainly would. My thanks to Coutu for making this experience for myself and my family a flawless affair, and a special thanks to Elizabeth for taking such good care of all of us. We really were treated as more then just clients, through Elizabeth and Coutu we were taken gently through what could’ve been a horrible experience. Instead, we received the most compassionate care and thoughtfulness imaginable. Should the need ever arise again, and I hope that it doesn’t, I wouldn’t hesitate to call upon these gracious people again
