Melwel Lodge
Since 1945, three generations of families have traveled from across the United States and Canada to enjoy the unmatched beauty and hospitality of Melwel Bay. Melwel is located in the picturesque Algoma region of Ontario, an area steeped in history and stunning beauty. Melwel Bay offers a jewel-like setting for the lodge: magnificent rock formations reflect across crystal clear waters, surrounded by untouched forest.

Nestled along the treed shoreline of Melwel Bay are 11 gorgeously restored, immaculately maintained 1-4 bedroom cabins. Each cabin has it's own unique personality, offering guests wilderness luxury of comfortable beds and furniture, elite hotel linens, well appointed amenities, and the relaxing feeling of the history of the property.
Services
Planning a corporate retreat, wedding or a family reunion? Melwel Lodge is the perfect place to host your event. Our property has over 30 acres, so everyone can find that quiet spot to call their own. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere for your corporate meeting, or delight in the special moment as you take your vows on the shore of Big Basswood Lake.
Our young guests spend the day canoeing, paddle boating and kayaking in the gorgeous waters of our private bay, or swimming or jumping on our huge 25' water trampoline. When they are tired of swimming, they can have a game of horse shoes, tennis or basketball, or a hike on the Voyageur Trail.

Parent's love the safety and proximity of the grounds: clearly marked swimming areas, a gradual change in water depth along the beach, plenty of life jackets and wetsuits, and play areas that are within sight from most places on the property.Kids of all ages will have an amazing experience at Melwel Lodge.
Big Basswood Lake shoreline is one of the cleanest and largest inland lakes in Ontario, and consistently ranks Number 1 by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources for water clarity. The lake is about 7,000 surface acres, 300 feet deep, with 30 miles of shoreline. You can drink the water right from the lake (which to our way of thinking is the way water should be!).
Cottage 2 is set among the trees, over-looking Melwel Bay on Big Basswood Lake. Below the cottage is our gorgeous beach, where you can relax and enjoy the crystal clear water, or roast marshmallows over an open bonfire in the evenings! Captivating views of the famous Melwel sunset can be had while lounging on the Muskoka chairs on the attached deck.
Cottage 6 is our newest cottage, being set back off the beach, over-looking Melwel Bay on Big Basswood Lake. This large family cottage has a spacious open concept living/dining room with a large fully-equipped kitchen. A few steps from the cottage is our gorgeous beach, where you can relax and enjoy the crystal clear water, or roast marshmallows over an open bonfire in the evenings!

Many lights were burnt out. There were no smoke detectors or fire extinguishers in our cabin.

This is the best place and I find the cottages beautiful and the lake is beautiful and if you take your boat out to the deep you are sure to see at least 1 loon or 2 and cottages 11 and 6 are the best SO I SUGGEST THAT YOU GET A COTTAGE

Our first visit to Melwel Lodge was the best! The whole area is beautiful and so relaxing. There are so many things to do to keep you (and kids!) busy for the day. The staff were so helpful and check in on you daily to see if there is anything they can get for you and even just to say hello. Will definitely be returning!

What a place... truly magical! New building is downright beautiful, cabins are amazing, views breathtaking and the lake is obviously magical. Clearest water in the world I’m pretty sure. Erik (GM) and his girlfriend Andrea are some of the most hospitable and genuinely cool people we’ve ever met. They welcomed us with open arms (not to mention ridiculously prepared local food as Erik is a professional chef)! I’ve traveled quite a lot but nothing compares to this place. Six stars across the board. We will be back no doubt. P.S. My family stayed here thirty years ago when I was only three-years

My first time at Melwel & we would love to go back. Everyone was so kind and welcoming. The place is spotless and so relaxing. Many thanks for a lovely 70th birthday celebration. The fish fry was wonderful. Our grandchildren really enjoyed the art classes & the beach. We hope to enjoy your beautiful surroundings and hospitality again next year.
