Abbotsford Karate Club helps our students grow strong bodies and strong minds, stressing fitness, self-defense, and character development in a positive, supportive, environment. Since 1972, Abbotsford Karate Club has been training martial artists of all ages in Shotokan Karate - straight from Japan.

Abbotsford Karate Club offers students a chance to train and compete in Karate BC tournaments. Our club is recognized by Karate BC, and is a certified member of Gima-Ha International Karatedo Federation, making our students able to compete nationally. Learn traditional weapons like bo staff, sai, nunchaku and many more.

The Abbotsford Karate Club began in Abbotsford in 1972. Chief Instructors have included Robert Sidoli, Joe Worley, and the current Chief Instructor, Paul Sexton (6th Degree Black Belt) assisted by Ted Gosling (5th Degree Black Belt).

Our club has been fortunate to be influenced by many well-known instructors who have visited and taught at our club like Sensei Hidetada Narumi, Sensei Hidetaka Nishiyama, Sensei Hirakazu Kanazawa, Sensei Toru Yamaguchi, Sensei Ikuo Higuchi, Sensei Mitsunori Kobayashi, Sensei Tak Sameshima.We are member of the Gima Ha International Karate Federation (GIKF) and associated with GIKF Canada.

I have been in martial arts for over 20 years and have never been to a more welcoming, patient, kind and wholesome environment. The teaching is excellent and there is more taught here than martial arts. These are true mentors. My son attends regularly. I did for some time as well and my daughter has attended on occasion. This place is such a gift that anything I can say just doesn't cut it. Just join and you will see.

Our two sons joined the Abbotsford Karate Club in September 2018 and quickly found a second home with with a great bunch of highly skilled athletes. This dojo supports both new comers and the elite in a supportive, fun learning envirnonment. Our boys are challenged to be their best, to respect themselves and others, and to work hard. My high energy son joined Abbotsford Karate Club only 4 months ago but since then, he has gained so much! Increased confidence, better focus, enhanced discipline and goal setting and stronger core are just few examples of his general improvement. I would highly recommend this dojo. Senseis are kind yet firm, patient, and professional with massive amount of knowledge.

I joined a couple of months ago and couldn’t be happier! Sensei’s Paul and Ted have made me feel welcomed since day one and continue to do so. We have been coming to this Dojo for 3 years now and I just can't express how great it has been for our son. Sensei Paul and Sensei Ted display remarkable patience with the students while teaching.
Their way of instructing focuses on showing respect, listening ,following the rules and at the same time building confidence. My son actually enjoys practising and looks forward to his training classes!
I highly recommend this Karate Club.
