Services
Our firm was founded by William Collins in 1975. Since then, Mr. Collins and his team have been providing effective legal representation to clients from all over Newfoundland and Labrador. Brian D. Wentzell is originally from Corner Brook and moved to St. John's to complete his university education.
If you have been injured in an accident in Newfoundland, you should retain legal counsel without delay. Never admit liability either to the other driver or to the police. Your only legal obligation at the scene of an accident is to exchange your name, contact information and insurance information. Never accept a quick offer of settlement from an insurance company, no matter how tempting it may be, without first talking with a lawyer.
Criminal law includes quazi-criminal matters and relates to all investigations under the Criminal Code of Canada, the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the Excise Act and others. You may be involved in any such matter either as a suspect, an accused person or as a witness to an offence.
Real estate law is the law dealing with everything to do with real property-land and the buildings on that land. The most common type of real estate law practiced by lawyers is the purchase, sale, construction or refinancing of residential houses and land. Buying or selling a house is usually the most important and the largest transaction people make in their lives.
Family law involves everything relating to the breakdown of a marriage or common law relationship as well as everything relating to children who were born out of a more casual relationship. Where children are involved, the issues that arise relate to custody, access and child support. Other issues not related to children include spousal support (commonly known as alimony) and the division of assets and debts (including employment pensions).
