The British Ensign Hotel is built by Edward Cutler from whip-sawn lumber and hand cut nails. Serving as a hotel for sportsmen, The British Ensign quickly becomes a regular stopping point forstagecoaches travelling to Sooke, as well as "a quiet retreat for those unmarried, who require a littleprivacy."
During these early times, the building saw a wide array of functions: it served as atemporary school, performed church services, and even received the scar of a bullet hole after a disputewith rail workers that had been working on the Canadian National Railway. Eventually this popular landmark becomes known as the 17 Mile House Pub, as it is located 17 miles from Victoria City Hall.

Services
Our world famous. OK it's not world famous but it's well known around here. Clams, scallop, shrimp, haddock and salmon mixed with vegetables make up our version of this classic creamy dish. Served in sourdough bread bowl. Artisan lettuces, goat cheese, candied almonds, tomato, cucumber & sundried cranberries with a honey-balsamic vinaigrette.
All burgers served with lettuce, red onion, tomato and your choice of soup, salad, or fries. Fresh house made beef patty topped with sauted mushrooms, caramelized onion, cheddar and Applewood smoked bacon. Served on a sesame brioche bun with our 17 Mile burger sauce. Seared chicken breast, bacon, crispy onions, cheddar, sriracha & garlic mayo on a sesame brioche bun.
A 17 Mile classic! Seasoned chicken, pan seared with bell peppers, onions, jerk spice, jack & cheddar cheeses on a ciabatta bun. Slow roasted, Angus certified beef, thinly sliced and piled high on a ciabatta bun with au jus for dipping. Crispy chicken, hot sauce, caesar salad, bacon, jack and cheddar cheeses wrapped in a tortilla.
Don't miss this one-day music festival each July! Seven local bands provide back-to-back live music starting at 3pm. Tickets are $20 and sell out quickly. Be sure to visit the 17 Mile House Pub early to purchase you ticket in advance! The 2015 line-up included Cannibal Bob, Weak Patrol, Johnny Galactic, Sweet Leaf & Illvis Freshley.
Renowned for our large outdoor space, the 17 Mile House Pub offers patio seating for up to 60 people. Outdoor facilities include a full-sized beach volleyball court, pool table, horseshoe pits, Bocce and Ladder Ball sets, fire pit, and an outdoor stage. Good food fare; salmon burger with salad, and chicken fingers with fries. Lovely service; helpful, prompt and courteous. Great ambiance, clean, rustic and cozy. Ok bill; wasn't cheap, (yesteryears) didn't mind because it was fresh and delicious. Follow BC Health protocol; Vaccine Passport and ID required.

You need to stop here! If you are a tourist and just exploring the beautiful beaches along the islands coast this pub is the place to end your day!
Absolutely lovely environment, dog friendly area near the patio, perfect spot amongst the trees and the adjacent highway is not very loud or busy.
The drinks are awesome and they serve a great offering of local brews. Since being on the island, we just had to order seafood and we were not disappointed. The salmon burger and fish and chips are crazy good and perfect for those looking for a great island experience. We also got gravy with our fries which

Stopped in on the way back from a day of hiking. Prompt, friendly service. Nice environment in an old style pub. I ended up ordering the seafood fettuccini. The order didn't take long at all but they do have a warning on their menu that during peak hours food may take a bit longer due to having a small kitchen, on a Monday evening this was not the case. The dish itself was absolutely unbelievable! 6 big prawns, 8 mussels and a ridiculous amount of baby scallops all cooked to absolute perfection! The Alfredo sauce itself was thick, creamy, salty, a bit sweet even and glorious! The noodles were

I would definitely go back. Our menu items were good the service was good. They could update their bathroom.
the outside area was really pretty but we didn't sit outside because the music was too loud and it was too hot! It was a really cool place inside and they have lots of bar games and apparently kids can enjoy lunch there as well.
They apparently are not Toronto Maple Leaf fans!! 😂😂

Stopped in at this pub with our 10 year old. Kids are allowed until 9pm! Atmosphere was super cool, with live country music. We all loved it! Food was awesome. We had spicy prawns to start (omg yum) and ordered fish & chips, macaroni & cheese, and the salmon burger. All were cooked to perfection. Definitely recommend :)

This place is conveniently located right next to where we went zip lining while we were visiting during our cruise. We enjoyed some beers and delicious red onion rings. They had great flavor and of course with some ranch for dipping, they're even better. We love the ambiance of the outdoor space which they utilize very well. Dogs are allowed in the grass area, numerous seating arrangements on their outdoor deck, a stage for concerts, corn hole games, horseshoes, a pool table and bocci ball! Wish we had a place like this near us.

Went here a couple weeks ago and had a decent meal so we went back this Saturday. Upon arrival as we went to sit down we were told there might be a waitlist maybe someone sitting at the bar was in line for a table (not sure how she would not know this).Waitress was very unfriendly unlike the one we had previously. She then walked away..Meanwhile a young man clearing the table asked if it was just the three of us...The waitresses unwelcome approach to us was enough we left. Then saw the three people that had just walked in the door get seated at that table...Sooke does not have a ton of restaurants

The boyfriend was reading Google reviews for here. (Yes he and I will talk). There was a 1 star review that upon reading it made us want to come here more than any 5 star review could and we weren't disappointed. Something about no kids menu yadda, yadda. It's rainy and early spring but we saw an outdoor beer garden that beckons for returning on warmer days. The waitress was friendly, the beer cold and the loaded Poutine - YES!!! The building is cozy and reminiscent of the history of this place. Keep an eye out for humorous "Easter Eggs." We are pretty sure that if it wasn
