Karate originated as a system of self-defence on the island of Okinawa. It was a form of hand to hand combat that was developed over many centuries by the Okinawans. They were forced to train in secrecy as a result of a ban on weapons imposed by the rulers. The martial art originally known as "te" (meaning hand) evolved into "karate" (meaning empty hand).

We focus on the traditional karate values of character development, discipline, respect and dedication as set fourth by Gichin Funikoshi, the founder of Shotokan Karate.
Services
We are not a business but rather a traditional, non-commercial martial arts school. Our Club members are individuals who come from all walks of life. You will be training alongside high school and college students, professionals, health industry workers, business owners, technicians and many others.
Heian Shodan is the first kata a beginner to Shotokan Karate learns, and is fundamentally one of the most important kata you study. Taking roughly 40 seconds to perform, this kata contains 21 movements. The second of the Heian Kata series is used in the yellow belt test. With 26 movements, this kata should take about 50-60 seconds to perform and is more physically demanding than Heian Shodan.
