Spence Gallery
Spence Gallery has built a reputation for its curation of artwork from a roster of artists known for innovation, challenge, and diversity. In 2005, founder Joan Spence got inspired to establish an art gallery where inclusion was encouraged rather than exclusivity. Joan envisioned a gallery space that embraced different contemporary artistic voices and removed entry barriers to acquiring fine art.

From the outset, Spence Gallery offered original artworks by mostly Canadian and a few international artists at accessible price points. The gallery also became a platform where first-time visitors, art enthusiasts, and seasoned collectors alike could engage with fine art without feeling intimidated.

I work with colors and textures always trying to push the limit of contrast as far as I can. Between the paint, the texture of the canvas, and the thick layer of resin I apply to my work, there is always so much light and energy to my work. Depending on the light, the feeling of my work changes with the light; you get a different mood and the result is always very surprising.
Debongnie brings flowers to life. As a self-taught artist, he has claimed a language for contemporary floral presentations with hints of an Eastern aesthetic gained from his 20 year of living in Asia. He uses Chinese ink to add a dramatic fluidity and depth to his predominantly monochromatic work. His semi-abstract work animates flowers against the backdrop of landscapes hidden in muted palettes of grey, beige or taupe.
My paintings are my response to my deep and abiding love of the wild places of Ontario. I am motivated to paint images, whether representational or abstract, which reflect my profound sense of connection to the rocky and wild Canadian Shield landscape which seems to inhabit me.

Laura Culic's distinct aesthetic is built on her use of cold wax painting to represent natural landscapes, imbued with abstracted elements, where she subverts our expectations of this uniquely Canadian genre of wilderness painting.Culic uses innovative mediums and precise mark-making techniques to add body, depth, and transparency to her paintings.
