D&R Custom Steel Fabrication was founded in the spring of 1971 and located within a much smaller space than operating out of today. The location on Woodbine Avenue in Markham served as D&R's home until 1985 when we moved to our current location in Pickering, Ontario. The custom built facility had 16,000 sq ft of shop space but was soon expanded to 24,000 sq ft to continue to support our growth and growing customer base.
D&R Custom Steel began in 1971, founded by John DeWit and Yke Reitsma, reflected in the company name. Both John and Yke were immigrants to Canada from the Netherlands, and both brought extensive steel fabrication experience and a commitment to quality to their new business venture. Service-driven, they quickly grew the company into a trusted fabricator and employer.
When John DeWit and Yke Reitsma founded D&R Custom Steel Fabrication, their primary mission was to provide quality custom steel fabrications. Today, that commitment to quality is still a hallmark of D&R's business, and quality management remains a top priority. To ensure the quality of every piece we make, D&R employs only highly skilled tradespeople, including Canadian Welding Board (CWB)-certified welders, fitters, and welding supervisor.
Because it resists corrosion, rust, and water stains, stainless steel is ideal for water treatment equipment and other fabrications that might be exposed to water or corrosive conditions. Stainless steel also has antibacterial properties, making it ideal for water and air treatment, as well as material handling in the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, and similar industries.
