Services
Fighting Griffin Martial Arts, opened in 1979, offers classes in Go Ju Ryu Karate, Hapkijitsu and Kobudo for both adults and kids. Classes run throughout the year with the exception of statutory holidays and other Dojo events such as gradings. All classes are taught by experienced instructors who take teaching of martial arts seriously while ensuring both safety and fun.
Each class begins with warm-up exercises. A typical class involves the development of basics, drills with partners, solo Kata work, as well as bunkai (practical application) and/or self-defense techniques. Our students use the coloured belt system to denote achievement. The requirements for each colour belt are outlined in the student manual.
Our students and teachers take pride in maintaining a safe and clean training environment. Our facility features a large matted surface throughout the training area for student safety and comfort. Mirrors are installed around the training floor for better learning. A traditional training atmosphere includes The Wood Room, an area used to honour our training lineage and display items important to our club history.
Renshi Stephanie has been training with Kyoshi Scott for over 21 years. Her energy and focus always sets the tone for the class she teaches, while her drive and knowledge inspires her students to strive for better whenever she is on the floor. Renshi Stephanie holds an advanced black belt in Okinawan Go Ju karate.
Fighting Griffin instructors and students support our community whenever possible through club activities such as coat collection, toy drives and garage sales. Here is what some of these organisations have to say. See their video here! Thanks to our generous students and parents, we did it again!
The weather was a little grey, but the rain held out for our student-donated spread of household items, clothing, toys and baby items, bikes, sports equipment, furniture and baked goods.Kyoshi manned the BBQ, and Renshi got some help with the till (see the picture below!). We raised over $1000 during the garage sale, and still have some items available on Kijiji.
