MMA is generally thought of as a sport, where two challengers fight in a cage with minimal rules. However, MMA is much more than a contest of skill and will, it is a study into some of the most effective methods of combat. In the beginning, different martial arts were pitted against each other to determine which was "best".
Eventually it was discovered that each martial art had something to offer, and the fighter who combined them in the best way had the edge. Pretty soon there were no fighters who practiced a single discipline, everyone was blending styles. The key was combining striking and grappling, as many arts solely focus on one or the other.

Karate is a form of self defense developed by the natives of Okinawa, while defending their island from bandits. Their original martial art was fused with Chinese Kung Fu, to create Karate as we know it. The practice of Karate not only strengthens one's body, but also sharpens their mind. Students learn the stances, strikes and techniques of Kempo Karate, and are faced with challenges to develop focus and inner strength.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is arguably the most effective form of self defense. This art gained popularity in the 90s, when Royce Gracie used it to defeat much larger opponents in no holds barred fighting. Students begin with the basics, learning how to properly move on the ground and on their feet. Throws, submissions, pins and escapes are taught during the technical aspect of classes.

My husband & son have been attending the BJJ classes led by Professor Craig and Tyler and both simply love it. The instructors have made the learning both fun yet simplified. We would highly recommend this Dojo for any adults or children for their BJJ or Karate classes. This family run Dojo cares about each of their students unlike many of the larger facilities who are just trying to make as much money as quickly as possible. Both my husband and son are counting down the days till they can get back to in-person training.

Awesome place for anybody from toddlers to teenagers, busy parents (with good attitudes) and retirees. Very friendly, family run, great approach and just perfect for people who want to grab some exercise maybe when their kids are doing it too. Just don't be lazy and they will take you to a new level of fitness and self-appreciation. Try it! 😀
