Various philosophies of instruction give students of all ages an appreciation, enjoyment and knowledge of music. We offer a wide variety of private and group instruction by well-qualified teachers, thus providing the members of the community an excellent opportunity for obtaining a good musical education in the discipline of their choice.

Services
The Vernon Community Music School (VCMS) is a non-profit organization and registered charity dedicated to musical learning, enjoyment and excellence. Membership is open to all, on payment of an annual registration fee, which helps cover essential operating expenses. The Board of Directors is elected annually from the membership and the School relies heavily on its members for volunteer help.
The Smith House was built in 1908, at a cost of $13,000, a significant sum at the time. It is Vernon's most significant Colonial Revival villa and it was built by Samuel Cameron Smith, one of Vernon's early and prominent residents. He owned several sawmills, lumber yards, and a sash and door factory; he was Vernon's largest employer for many years.
Musical Munchkins is run by Ms. Natalie, and is an introductory primer for infants 0-23 months and their caregivers. These child centred classes will provide a sensory rich experience for infants as they participate in musical stories and songs. Connections will be encouraged through shared experiences and activities based on rhythm, melody, movement and pitch.
Glee performs theatrical productions that incorporate acting, singing with a live band and choreography. Our first show was "Glee performs the ABBA music that inspired MAMMA MIA". Glee performs a show at the end of the first semester at the Powerhouse Theatre. The second production was "The Beatles music that inspired the movie "ACROSS THE UNIVERSE".
Improvisation is the art of the creative activity of "in the moment" musical composition, which combines performance with communication of emotions and instrumental technique as well as spontaneous response to other musicians, but encompasses so much more than playing fast solos. We will begin by using the blues from its earliest most basic form as a basis for developing harmonic, melodic and rhythmic musical language.
