In 1972, Terry Matthews partnered with BNR colleague at the time Michael Cowpland to found Mitel Corporation. Wesley Clover was the holding company put in place to facilitate the creation of Mitel Corporation in 1972. With a $3,600 loan, Mitel successfully developed and produced tone receiver technology that was used in the telecom industry transition from rotary-dial telephones to touch-tone phones.
