Dr. Batten was born and raised in St. John's, NL. He graduated from Prince of Wales Collegiate and continued on to Dalhousie University, completing his Doctorate of Dentistry in 1993. He moved back to St. John's and practiced at a local dental clinic for the next 7 years. In 2000, Dr. Batten along with Dr. Paul Lutz opened Cowan Heights Dental Centre.
