The Home strives to provide a pleasant "homelike" atmosphere, responding to the needs, and enhancing the lives of our Residents and their families/friends. Support, understanding, and empathy are extended to our Residents, families, and friends through our open-door policy. Through its management practices and policies, The Home encourages the development of a "family" environment dedicated to providing personalized care and services that strive for excellence.
The Home's history is Winnipeg's history, as it has provided continuous care to society's most vulnerable extending through the typhoid epidemic, the Spanish Flu pandemic, Winnipeg's "Strike", two World Wars, the depression, polio epidemic, Winnipeg Flood, ongoing struggles with funding shortages, and challenges with aging spaces combined with poor structural design of its many location(s).

Services
Before admission to The Home, a detailed phone conversation with our Social Worker will occur; as well, a potential "in-person" visit/tour, usually with our Social Worker and a nurse, will be arranged. The phone discussion and/or visit provide the opportunity to discuss care plans and gather information that can help make transition to The Home much easier.
All Residents in long-term care are charged a per diem rate (referred to as "Residential Charge") which is established by Manitoba Health. The daily rate is based on the Resident's previous year's income (confirmed by the Notice of Assessment). The Resident or their family/legal representative are responsible for payment of the assessed charge.
Fire drills are conducted monthly. All employees are thoroughly trained as to their roles in the event of an emergency situation. When the alarm sounds, Residents, family/legal representatives, and visitors are requested to stay where they are, unless directed otherwise by a staff member. Entrance to The Home is by swipe card or access granted by our Business Office Administrator through our intercom system.
Three goals are developed based on the Resident's social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and spiritual needs. All our programs are developed around the community of Residents' identified needs, interests, and preferences. A monthly recreation calendar is posted on each floor and personal copies are made available.
To ensure privacy and confidentiality are always maintained, we recommend NOT using email for specific matters in which personal details are shared. In such instances, we ask that you connect with us in person, in writing, or by phone call. The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg will address all concerns and issues submitted by Residents, their families/legal representatives related to the care and services provided, and/or environment.
