St. James is a small community-based tennis club located in the heart of The Glebe, Ottawa. Our members are young, old, and in-between, and enjoy combining tennis with a relaxed and sociable club atmosphere. Our young, enthusiastic, and experienced coaches run the largest junior program in the region, seeing an average of over 100 juniors participating in lessons at St. James each day.

Our programs often fill within the first few hours of opening day! St. James has 4 hard courts and a 5th practice court at Corpus Christi across the street, a clubhouse and lights for nighttime play. We offer a range of activities including individual and group lessons, competitive leagues, club tournaments, and "round robins" where members can just turn up and play a game.

Alex has been teaching tennis in Ottawa for 13 years. At age 15 he started as a tennis camp instructor and quickly fell in love with coaching and continued to grow his experience and client base over the years. Alex is now a sponsored pro with Wilson Canada, Tennis Canada Club Pro 2 certified, and is working as the director of tennis at St. James Tennis Club.
The St. James Tennis Club is an offshoot of the Ottawa Tennis and Lawn Bowling Club (OTLBC) which was founded in 1881. In 1906 the OTLBC moved to its 4th location, between Third and Fourth Avenues west of Lyon (across the street from St. James's current location, now used as the Mutchmor School and Corpus Christi School playground) and in 1907 built the current Club House building.
The Ontario Tennis Association (OTA) is the provincial sport governing body for tennis in Ontario and has roots dating back to 1890. It is a non-profit organization, and the largest provincial tennis association in Canada, boasting 241 clubs and 65,000 adult and child tennis players.

The two basic aims of the OTA are to encourage participation in the sport of tennis in Ontario and to provide a structure of services that will assist players to reach a level of competence consistent with their personal goals and abilities.
Social events are a big part of tennis at St James, and 2020 offers many opportunities to have fun and meet new people at the club! We have several activities already lined up. We'll send members more information by email closer to the date of each event. In the meantime, here are some details. St James is operated by paid staff but managed by volunteers and we need you!

Great spot to play. Went for years as a youngster and took lessons as well. The teachers really know what they are doing and the courts are well maintained. There is a water fountain and bathrooms as well.
