Services
Sourcing meat from animals raised humanely, fed a diet of real food that is natural to their diet, without the injection of drugs should be the norm, but it unfortunately isn't. Our fundamental belief that there is a better, sustainable approach to the meat industry is what drives us to be the leader in providing delicious, ethically raised meat that you can feel good about buying and eating.
Our Midtown store is our largest store, offering not only our full selection of extraordinary meat, but Organic produce, dairy, and much more. All Online orders are processed at this location. Our Downtown store is where it all began and remains the heart of The Healthy Butcher. This location is more of a traditional butcher shop, offering everything we offer on the meat and fish side, but less of the groceries that you will find online.
Our goal is simple: to help you and your family achieve an easy and delicious Thanksgiving feast. From fresh turkeys, Organic & 100% Grassfed beef, turducken rolls and gammon, to sauces, chef-prepared sides, and award-winning desserts, we have curated a bounty of delicious festive favourites that will fill your household with joy.
The Healthy Butcher was born from a passion for meat raised the way nature intended. We are unique in that what we provide is the perfect intersection between healthy and gourmet. We don't just ensure your steak is nicely marbled, but we make sure that what's in the marbling is worth eating.

At The Healthy Butcher, we determine ALL relevant information about how the animals are raised, from where they live, to what they ate, to how they are transported, and ensure every step of the process is done right, before deciding to sell a cut to you. What you buy from us is meat that was raised the way nature intended, a true representation of nature's gourmet.
And our Grassfed Beef is nothing short of extraordinary. We not only procure Grassfed Beef that has an incredible Omega 3-to-6 ratio, and overall incredible nutritional profile, we also ensure your beef is nicely marbled which is very difficult in the world of Grassfed Beef. We source from local farms when in season, and we import beef from the Southern hemisphere to cover us the rest of the year.

Organic Striploin, amazingly good quality meat, definitely worth the money to avoid the glyphosate (Roundup) in virtually all foods. Whole Foods' grassfed striploin and Pusateri's striploin don't even come close. Thank you, Healthy Butcher.

Yesterday, with some hesitation, went to this shop to pickup some meat to make kabob for my wife, the reason for my hesitation is because I’ve experienced poor customer service from the meat counter butchers when asked for a fresh cut as mostly of the very limited pre cut selection usually looks like it’s been at the counter for a couple of days.
Spoke with a lady that was helpful but didn’t seem to be very knowledgeable, went back to the fridge indicating they don’t have fresh cuts beside what’s at he counter.
This’s not unusual as I’ve experienced the same in the past, as was

Always very clean every time I visit, their meat prep area is clear glass too so you can see how clean they are inside too.
Can't smell a thing unlike other butcher shops.
I come here to buy chicken and chicken liver to make raw food for my cat and can really trust their meats.

Because of COVID I have been trying to switch to local shops. Last Saturday evening. I was walking through Eglinton Avenue when I came across this store and decided to give it a try. When I walked in, they were about to close, as I arrived close to 7pm . It is a shame that stores had to reduce their hours. On the bright side of things, I was still greeted warm welcome. As I was browsing around, the cashier approached me and asked if I needed any help. I told him it was my first time at the store, and he started to recommend products. He was so enthusiastic about the meat and produce that I was

Wanted to make authentic fish & chips for dinner, and found out that The Healthy Butcher is one of the few places in Toronto that carries beef tallow. Phoned ahead to make sure it was in stock -- thank you to Tom who provided exemplary customer service both over the phone and in person cashing us out. The beef tallow itself was excellent. I'd like to go back and explore this store more thoroughly!

So let’s start with the positives, without question the meat was top notch stuff, and we had it delivered without any issues (within the time window, nicely refrigerated). Can’t fault the product or delivery at all. And now that we’ve dealt with why this wasn’t only a one star review, let’s get to the heart of the matter!
We were first time customers as a surprise Christmas gift from family in the U.K. and what a terrific gift it was, but sadly it came with a catch. Understandably there is an advertised policy around estimated costs of fresh meat orders, no doubt linked to variables

I have a horror story to tell about this company. I ordered a food delivery for my 82year old mother, with diabetes and walking disorder, 2 weeks in advance. I was given a delivery window 3pm-5pm today. In the current covid situation I had to order so long in advance because there was no other option.

Today is a business day and around 1:30 I noticed an email sent to my personal account that I usually don't check during business hours at 11:10 that the delivery time has changed to 12:37, plus or minus an hour. Yes, 12:37. Ok, we were waiting for a phone call or any notification that the delivery

Although the meat is exceptional, it is also well overpriced. Occasionally meat I is brought in from out of province when needed, there is an infestation of both mice and cockroaches at times. The accumulation of bones for broth are not sufficient thus non organic or grass fed bones are provided. To keep up the name and availability the owners have cut corners and left their morality for profit margin. I'm not saying they are bad, just have to remind themselves what they are trying to represent.

Some of the freshest produce and top quality meats you can find. You have to be prepared to pay for the quality here, but I've tried a number of cuts of beef and they are worth every penny. Their organic beef/veal stock and waygu brisket helped me put together my best beef bourguignon yet.

My search for 100% grass fed beef led to the Healthy Butcher. Their customer service has been exceptional: all the way from the employees in the way they addressed the questions I had over the phone, to Katheline V. who corresponded promptly via email, all the way to the handling of my online order. Placed my first online order with them: loved the email updates once the personal shopper was done packing my order, helpful text update as the delivery person was on the way, prompt delivery within the specified two hour window of time AND they also included two free items in my delivery which was

Albeit expensive, I love this shop as it's a reliable place to get local, grass-fed, and organic meat options. Personally, I don't mind paying more to support healthier local farms, instead of shopping at traditional grocery stores that source their antibiotic and hormone heavy meat from factory farms.

As a butcher, they also offer all sorts of cuts you can't get a regular grocery stores. I often come here for grass-fed beef liver and chicken bones (to make my own bone broth).

They also have an assortment of unique healthy food and snacks, like organic apple cider vinegar, dark

Helpful Staff Quality Meats, crazy expensive.

Stick to the meat, it's what makes this place great! Skip the accoutrements! As a customer for years I have purchased everything from these guys (including a Big Green Egg BBQ). I even met the owners. The meat is both high quality and well sourced. However my last purchase from them for a Christmas meal for eight came to $373.62 and I realized that as a business they overcharge for so many things. For example I ordered cranberry sauce from them stupidly thinking it was made in house, nope and it was a brand and twice the price as my local

I wanted to go vegetarian after watching a few documentaries about the meat industry. But after I found the Healthy Butcher I decided to eat better meat, less often. Along with the meat being organic which makes it healthier and taste much better, I know the animal lived a natural life with outdoor access and humane conditions. Additionally everyone who works at the Healthy Butcher is passionate about what they do and very happy to help in any way.

I'm writing because I read about the benefits of eating lard. Yes lard! Not the kind in the grocery store but the kind your grandparents or great grandparents would had eaten.
high in vitamin D, second to cod liver oil!! 1 tbsp has 1000 ui of vitamin D!!! And according to Mary Enig author of know your fats, lard is 40% saturated fat, 50% monounsaturated fat, 10% polyunsaturated fat. And the percentage of saturated fat in lard protects the more vulnerable mono/polyunsaturated fats from oxidizing with heat, making lard excellent choice cooking & baking.
So I baked a crust mostly lard a bit

This is a wonderful store to browse and get ideas for a meal. The size of the store is just right. Small enough to be able to see everything in a brief visit, yet large enough to function properly. Staff are helpful and pleasant. The quality of their meat is second to none, which is a cliche of course, and one day I will do a blind taste test using a pound of ground beef and update my reviews with the result.
Since Sanagan opened a store a few years ago, with prices lower than HB and quality comparable, the competition is stiff. Now with Cumbrae's within walking distance, along with a decent

I didn't even get any food here. But let me tell you why I'm writing a review.

My friends and I had traveled into Toronto from America and parked in front of this shop. We had never been to Toronto before. We walked around and checked out a few stores in the area before deciding we were ready to go. When we got back, our car was gone. *gasp* So we walked into the store and asked if they had seen what happened to our car. Next thing we heard: "ohhhhh that was your car? Yeah, they towed it." *sad face* okay so we sadly walked out of the shop. Apparently Toronto tows your car

I took one of the cooking classes offered here- Knife Skills with Dave Meli.

I generally take a class or two per year, and this one was by far the best that I've ever signed up for. Dealing with a topic that's not particularly entertaining, Dave made our knife skills class incredibly engaging. He's extremely knowledgable, funny, and helpful. It's hard to imagine finding a better class in the city.

Bonus: Because we weren't "cooking" any food per se, Dave and Co laid out a pretty sweet cheese plate, complete with a nice pâté and a few drinks.

While I do love coming here, I find that the price point is much higher than other butcher shops. This is probably because their meat is organic.
They do have a good selection of grass fed beef, which is sometimes hard to find.
The chicken burgers here are delicious.

Wonderful staff, great options for food and excellent hours. We go every weekend and stock up on (better tasting) meats that when carefully picked, can cost the same as Loblaws next door.

We've always found that the staff are passionate about food and can list off different ways to cook everything in a flash. They encourage a small community like environment where the staff comes to know what you like and what you should try. We've even called randomly about recipes and the staff have gracefully taken the time to explain things like how to cook liver, what wine goes best with the clodhammer

This place just keeps getting better and better. After a recent facelift to house their new cooler section at the front, The Healthy Butcher is my favourite local store and hands down the best butcher shop in the city.

On any given day I can find duck, elk, venison or anything that tickles my culinary whim. Often I stop in just to get dinner inspiration and pick up something fresh to cook.

The staff are always happy to cut the meat any way that you prefer and they genuinely seem to have a love for good meat and all the products that they sell. Although the prices tend to be higher, the quality

Generally good selection of high quality locally sourced beef, pork, poultry and game.

However, I am a NY Strip man, and the ones at Healthy Butcher are both bizarrely small (seriously, I was here once and the biggest they had was 10 oz) and over-trimmed -- it's called a "Strip" because it's supposed to have a strip of fat on it! (Well, maybe that's not exactly why it's called that, but that's how you're supposed to trim it.)

So I end up buying my steak from Sanagan's or Cumbrae's -- can't wait until it opens on Queen W. -- and game/poultry

This place offers a complete throwback to yesteryear... both in terms of service quality as well as a healthy choice of food unadulterated by hormones, antibiotics, force-feedings, and living on a container ship or truck for 15,000,000 miles.

My first purchase from the store was less than stellar. The steak was ruined by my less than stellar cookery skills. Thankfully for me, my skills have improved immensely.

I didn't bother going back however until I heard they were carrying chocosol products.

Much to my delight, I also discovered that they are now selling non-homogenized milk.

Make sure you are prepared to take out a loan or come here on payday.

I gots me one steak cut in half because it's hard to cook on a stove top without drying it.

Let's just say, one steak set me back $14.91 one day and the next week I came they gave me the organic grassfed sirlion, it's the same price. Nope it's $3 more a pound $21+ for one steak.

Ok the meat is marbled, girls there are friendly. But I can't afford to come here often!

Being new to Toronto, I expected organic meats to be priced sky high. I was pleasantly proven wrong by The Healthy Butcher. My whole three weeks in Toronto so far, I have bought some pretty shady 'meats' in China town while I was getting acquainted with my grocer options; but never again will I buy meat that I don't know what or who and their grandmother's dog has touched it!

The prices at The Healthy Butcher are as follows:
Lean ground beef will run you in at $5.99/lb - cheaper than Loblaws by nearly $1.00/lb. I got two deeeelicious top sirloin steaks for about $20.00

Walking into the Healthy Butcher reminds me of an old school small town meat shop. The staffers are extremely friendly and eager to please, just so foreign in that Queen corridor (I kidd, it's no that bad). The shop itself is pretty small, they have a freezer section on the right, when entering. It has pre-made, frozen, "homemade" meals. Healthy stuff, where frozen food is concerned. straight into the store is a meat counter, and to the left of the meat counter is a salad counter. They have everything from Mac & Cheese to couscous salad.

Pricewise, it's pretty much in
