Services
Sputtek established in 1994 is known for high performance PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating services and coating equipment. Sputtek provides low Friction and wear resistance coatings for tooling and precision components. Decorative coatings are also an area of Sputtek expertise. Sputtek 15000 sq feet facility located in Toronto is equipped with several PVD coating machines, Thermospray cell and PVD coating equipment assembly units.
For coating deposition Sputtek is using cathodic arc and sputtering processes. These technologies are used either in separate PVD coating machines or in the same machine for hybrid processes. Sputtek cathodic Arc process is a unique process conducted in a specifically designed machines which allows plasma densification by using plasma optical system.
Common surface failures during cold work range from forming, stamping, fine blanking, punching to powder compacting. This can result in abrasive wear, adhesive wear or galling. Sputtek offers a variety of PVD coatings for cold work tooling to help extend the life of your tool. For your reference, we have provided the table below with a list of coatings for specific applications.
Common failures of cutting tools vary; this could range from gradual wear due to a crater, flank wear, excessive cutting forces, plastic deformation, mechanical breakage, edge wear and edge build up. PVD coating is one way to extend the life of cutting tools by eliminating the problems listed above.
In hot work applications like die-casting, any number of surface failures can occur: this includes erosion, soldering, corrosion, and thermal fatigue. Suitable coating acts as a protective layer to help minimize damages to your tool. At Sputtek, we offer PVD surface coating to eliminate the risk of cracking and chipping.
