At JDa, we pair design excellence with the desire to provide our clients with affordable solutions that seamlessly integrate innovation and sustainability. Our areas of focus include complex public projects, with a particular interest in protective services, education and healthcare, as well as feasibility studies and master site plans.
While we are proud of our reputation for success in these areas, we are especially excited about our expertise in colocation facilities that mix municipal services with other uses such as affordable housing and/or other civic operations.

Services
Creativity, hard work, sustainability, and a strong client focus. These are the architectural values that have governed JDa since we opened our studio over 40 years ago. Our passion for design has enabled us to to work with remarkable clients and resulted in a variety of projects ranging widely in scope but sharing an ultimate focus on people.
JDa, led by Kimberly Johnston, specializes in protective services design, and over the years our team has delivered police stations, courthouse facilities, emergency operations centres and a large number of fire halls to communities of all sizes across British Columbia and Alberta. Having worked on publicly funded projects for many years, we are skilled stewards of public monies and able to ensure both transparency and value are achieved.
Johnston Davidson Architecture strongly advocates the benefits of colocation. One of our first such projects, the $4.9M Sechelt Justice Services Building, completed in 2003, brought together a courthouse and a local police station, combining two services that work closely together and improving convenience for staff who access both facilities.
JDa has deep experience designing healthcare facilities, particularly acute care projects. We have provided design and project management services for various expansion and renovation projects for Providence Health Care and Lower Mainland Facilities Management over the past 15 years, which demonstrates our dedication and achievement in this sector as well as testifies to our clients' satisfaction with our work.
JDa has worked with a number of architectural offices that provide the benefit of a deeper understanding of the local area when projects are outside of the Lower Mainland. Collab also widens the expertise of our joint design team, to the benefit of our clients. JDa completed four fire hall projects in Edmonton between 2012 and 2017 in partnership with Architecture | Tkalcic Bengert.
