First, it is NON-POROUS, meaning your countertops will not stain, and does not require any sealing ever. Secondly, it is HEAT & SCRATCH RESISTANT; vital aspects for a room in which hot pans and sharp knives are the norm.
Granite countertops are extremely heat and scratch resistant, however, it is not impervious, and you should never use knives or place hot pots on any countertop surface. Because of the fabrication process, granite is more resistant to damage than laminate, but needs more attention than quartz. Because it is mined, it has natural fissures that require sealing about every 12 months.
