Services
In the spring of 1984, Terry and Germaine Montague moved from Regina, Saskatchewan to Notre-Dame, New Brunswick to settle and open a business. Being busy became increasingly demanding for the owners whose time and energy were being taxed. They therefore started to research other opportunities. By early 1996, the decision was made to transform the business and the log building into a coffee roasting house.
Down East Coffee started roasting coffee in 1996 in the quiet setting of the rural community of Notre-Dame, New Brunswick. We roast in the warmth of a traditional pice-sur-pice cedar log building which has an espresso bar and a retail outlet featuring freshly roasted coffees, loose leaf teas, premium chocolate covered beans plus, a choice of brewed coffees to go.
Some things just naturally go together to create a feeling of completeness that defines the perfect moment: Down East Coffee offers you tasteful gift-giving ideas to express your appreciation, mark that special occasion, promote your business, or offer fundraising for your special cause with a varied selection of delectable, freshly roasted coffee.

I grind my own beans daily for manual espresso. I was looking for freshly roasted beans for optimum results.
The roaster (employee) was unable to tell me when the beans had been roasted. There's no 'roast date' on the bags! Generally, this is the advantage of local roasters over other brands. Tell me the date, allow me to let it off-gas the appropriate number of days, package it in a C02 releasing bag, and give me consistency. I didn't get any of these choices.
I tried three varieties, and each resulted in a poor end-product I would normally attribute to older, stale roasted beans.
At $17-$19

I bought a pound of coffee beans from “Smile a While” in Rexton to bring back to Ottawa. The coffee is absolutely delicious and the beans aren’t over roasted. We’ve been using a pour over method and the bloom we get is exceptional! Will definitely be buying more when I come home for Christmas next month!
