Dr. Mina Yun was born and raised in Edmonton. Mina obtained her BSc and DDS from the University of Alberta in 1993. After graduation, she practiced general dentistry in Fort McMurray and Calgary prior to settling in Cochrane. Mina and Bill have lived in Cochrane since 1997. We are appreciative of the fact that we have the good fortune to work in such a great place that we can call home.
I have been a dental hygienist since 2011. I started in Toronto and found my way to beautiful Alberta. When I'm not in the office saving teeth, I am at home with my young daughter, husband and my very hyper dog; making and creating memories. I am a registered dental hygienist with more than ten years of experience.
Tooth decay and other dental problems are less common than ever before, thanks to improved awareness of proper home care, water fluoridation and effective preventative treatments. However, problems still do occur that require treatment. Fortunately, technology and techniques are continually improving, offering more effective, less invasive methods to keep your smile healthy.
When decay rots away enamel, the resulting space is called a cavity. Left untreated, the decay will eventually cause extensive damage to the tooth, and potentially cause the root to be infected. However, if the cavity is caught at an early stage, your dentist can treat it with a simple filling, typically in one appointment.
If the nerve within your tooth becomes infected, successful root canal treatment can keep you from losing the tooth while treating the infection before it causes health complications. Correctly performed, a root canal is no more uncomfortable than having a cavity filled, though the procedure is more complicated.

I’ve been a long time patient of dr. Gruel, and come in from Calgary for my appointments.
The facility is clean and modern without loosing the personal touch. His practice is very thoughtful making sure you are comfortable. With little take aways like lip balm that are small and meaningful.
I needed a wisdom tooth extraction. He guided me through the process, patiently and gently. I could understand the why and what of the process, which banished any apprehension.
The extraction with Novocain was done so quickly, and painlessly. It was over in less than a half hour, about 10-15 for the actual

Dr. Penner is by far the best dentist I’ve been to. She’s very thorough, gentle, and professional. Our kids are terrified of dentists because of the freezing. Dr. Penner did such an amazing job with them that they’ve actually asked to go back to have their teeth checked!! I highly recommend you get in to see Dr. Penner and the team at Bow River Dental🙌🏻
