The Canadian Academy of Osteopathy was founded in Hamilton, Ontario in 2003 by Robert Johnston, principal of the school, and his business partners. Over the past fifteen years, the CAO has grown to include two campuses in Hamilton, Ontario, helping to train over 300 classically trained Osteopathic Manual Practitioners each year.
At the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy, we're proud to offer free osteopathic treatments to the public provided at our not-for-profit student clinic. Osteopathy is a non-invasive, safe, and effective approach to a variety of issues, and can help with problems such as back, neck, and shoulder pain, headaches, fatigue, stress and anxiety, and more.
The Canadian Academy of Osteopathy offers a comprehensive four-year osteopathic education program. The program is rooted in a classical and principles-based understanding of osteopathic thinking, assessment, and treatment. As a student, you'll be provided with a combination of classroom training in theory, history, anatomy and physiology - alongside supervised clinical training.
Whether our students are working with fellow students in our practice clinic or treating real-life patients in our free public clinic, they are getting the first-hand experience they need to practice safe, effective, and ethical manual osteopathy in their career. All students are required to complete supervised clinical training & practice before graduation.

The Canadian Academy of Osteopathy provides both high quality education and very thorough practical experience. The Academy ensures students gain a deep understanding of Classicial Osteopathic principles so that the student gains confidence in application by using independent thinking into practice. A well balanced blend of theory and practical training while being surrounded by supportive and excellent staff and students. Thank you for the quality education provided at the CAO - very grateful to have made this decision to be of part of such a wonderful program!

I was immediately drawn to the program when I attended a visit day in 2013. The professors are the best in their fields and are always happy to assist their students. The best part about this program is that it is principle-based Osteopathy. This means that the students have to use their own knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and Osteopathic principles to provide a totally unique treatment for every patient, as opposed to step-by-step technique treatments. This is the single most important thing that divides this program from any other Osteopathic program. The CAO has equipped me with the tools

Best osteopathic school by far! If you want to be able to learn osteopathic principles, in conjunction with surgical level anatomy, to be able to create custom treatment techniques for patients, the CAO is the right choice of school! The teaching staff is amazing, the student clinic is unlike any other in Canada, and the quality of materials being produced at the school is exceptional.

Amazing professors, a very warm inclusive environment, and a high standard of education. Coming from a background in medicine, its so nice to be part of a community that wants you to succeed. I was never taught functional anatomy and my mind has been blown in just a few short months! I highly recommend this school to anyone who is interested in holistic health supported entirely by science and nature.

During my 3 months at CAO thus far, 5 stars is a fair representation. From the top down this school brings osteopathic education to the next levels. The Canadian Academy of Osteopathy definitely delivers principles-based osteopathic philosophy - the course work is very challenging, so if you want to be greatly skilled in osteopathic practice, then CAO is for you!
Mr. Johnston and his colleagues value professionalism, dedication, and hard work. The integrity is very high at CAO, the sense of community and support is ubiquitous throughout the school, so it's easy to feel comfortable and ready, which

This is where Osteopathy in it’s truest form comes to live in Canada. Principle based philosophy, as opposed to just technique, allows you to think outside the box and be the most effective when working with patients. I am so glad that I chose this school for my Osteopathic education, and am so appreciative to all of the faculty that continues to support and achieve high standards with all the students. Thank you CAO

This school provides the best learning atmosphere I've ever had the opportunity to be a part of. That includes both in sport and in other forms of education.
It not only provides you with the tools necessary to become a very good manual practitioner, but also with the wisdom of how and when to use those tools to truly go above and beyond any other practitioner out there. A bee hive of vibrant and sensitive bodies and minds. I feel incredibly blessed to be under the wing of the director, administrator, and teachers and all the support from those students "living in the stairs." Very crazy journey we have embarked on, us first years, it is fascinating and overwhelmingly inspiring!

From its founding in 1874 Osteopathy established itself as the top profession in manual therapy, eventually leading to its inclusion into the medical profession in the U.S. in the early 1900s. Unfortunately the… profession took a step back by this inclusion, and the CAO is the only school I am aware of that has gone back to the founding principles of the early days of osteopathy that proved to be so successful. The learning environment, students, and staff are truly exceptional. If you consider yourself as a holistic thinker and really want to provide the best possible care to any person
