Services
Planet Bean began roasting coffee in downtown Guelph in 1997. Ours was the first roastery in the City for at least half a century. From the beginning our focus was on certified Fairtrade and organic gourmet arabica coffee. The scent of our coffee roastery became a part of the downtown experience and was an aromatic beacon for anyone with a fine sense of flavour.
Planet Bean Coffee is a division of the Sumac Community Worker Co-operative. People start working at Planet Bean and after a period of time are able to join the worker co-operative and become a member of Sumac. Their employment is then seconded to Planet Bean. At Planet Bean we believe a democratic workplace based on the international principals of co-operation is the way to create a model for a people centred economy.
Planet Bean Coffee is certified organic. This means that the organic integrity can be authenticated from the plant to the cup. The Canadian organization that ensures this authentication for Planet Bean is Ecocert Canada. Growing organic coffee is very labour intensive. Farmers work to develop soil biodiversity and combat erosion.

Despite a nice logo, spacious deck, and overall appealing initial Impression, I cannot recommend this location.
The coffee was stale and served from old large steel drums. The prices are expensive. I couldn't finish my drink as I was afraid it's would cause harm to my internals. Do not visit. Guelph has several nicer coffee shops in a walking distance.

Had coffee twice this week at the downtown location. Both times the regular brewed coffee tasted old and stale. On top of this the staff that served me seemed disinterested, and as if I was imposing on their time. If I wanted crappy coffee, I would have gone to a chain coffee shop. I get that traffic flow is down and that the coffee could be sitting around for a while. That I get . However, there is no need to be aloof and so disinterested with a customer. Disappointing.

Fresh roasted beans, excellent coffee, yummy treats, (vegan + gluten free options) tons of places to sit and enjoy a beverage or get some work done, or meet someone and opportunities to support fair trade crafters and farmers.
It is arguably the best place to get a coffee while downtown.
Following a logical set-up, the layout of the coffee house allows for easy navigability of the space whether you are laden w/a stroller, kinders, or use a mobility device.

I had the most amazing service at Planet Bean on Grange in Guelph last night. I accidentally dropped a teapot and shattered it in the middle of a business meeting (awkward!) and the two staff were so kind, helpful and truly friendly that I could not believe it. If you are looking for a genuinely welcoming and comfortable cafe experience I highly recommend this place, definitely will be back.

Great Guelph spot for the coffee lover in you.
We stop here whenever we're in downtown Guelph (there are several good restaurants we like in the area), as they really do make a great cup of coffee. Their lattes and capps are amazing and my seventeen year-old daughter loves their mochas. Pastry selection (being European, a definite must with very good coffee) is actually pretty good, but I really enjoy their almond biscotti.
Order a coffee, have a seat and enjoy some good conversation. You can't go wrong with place place.

The coffee here is great. And they offer many choices, on top of the two "Chatty Matty" and "Freedom Fighter" available to serve everyday.
The employees have ways been friendly and helpful over the years I have been frequenting.
My only request would be more vegan options for treats. The almond butter cookies are tasty though.

Wi-Fi is a hidden message this location but more importantly is the ambulance it has the feel of a cafeteria it's loud sound bounces off the walls and it's not really that great of a location. I find the servers a little bit snotty and overall not really the warmest experience. The only thing going forward is at the coffee is roasted locally it's fair trade in the summer they have an excellent selection of gelato

Great service, great atmosphere and their lattes and London fogs are the best in town. The baked goods selection is limited, but everything is fresh, flavourful and thoughtfully prepared. The gelato is incredible and the atmosphere is exactly what you would want from an independent local cafe. Put down the Tim's and Starbucks and check out Planet Bean.

Man! The dude behind the counter with a nose ring, etc... knows how to make a latte that is 10 on the richter scale. I dropped by on a Sat afternoon with some friends and this fellow did a masterful job.
Not only is it done perfectly, but he also throws a cool art design on it.
Its a small place,a few tables, but hey, it is the best latte in town as far as I am concerned.
So Kudos to Planet Bean. Great staff,, and service.
I'll Be back, next visit to Guelph

Great local business in a prime location. The place itself is small but the floor to ceiling windows give a nice frame to the downtown Guelph scene. I ordered the feta bagel sandwich and the carmel latte (which is worth all the hype). Good food - fast service and supporting a non-chain business...two thumbs up!

I am not afraid of giving 5 star reviews. Planet Bean is wicked. The Orange floor, yellow walls and reddish pink curtains are awesome and make any hipster wannabe feel at home.
I moved to Guelph 2 days ago. The first place I visited was Second Cup on College and Gordon. It had nice seating but the Americano was lackluster and commercial tasting. What did me in was the sneaky WiFi that didn't let you get past the welcome screen.
What to do in a new city akin to hick-ville - or so I thought - without a decent cup of Java? I found my way over to Planet Bean and ordered a super tasty Americano
