It's a little over 2 years now that I became the 4th owner of Side Street Studio and there have been many changes during that time. The physical space has been completely renovated with the shelving and display cases moved, the walls painted, a new cash desk and wrapping station built and added, new shelving for the wood art has been installed, a new card wall, a textile wall, a product photo station added to the back room and so on.

The story of Side Street Studio is more than the history of a business. It is the physical expression of a belief that real art should be accessible to everyone. It is also the evolution of a business model supported by principles of community-building economics. In 1984, six women artists rented a space on a small side street in Victoria's Oak Bay neighbourhood.
Side Street Studio represents a wide range of potters and their beautiful work. The work ranges from spectacular, decorative showpieces, artfully designed functional pieces, to funky, whimsical and modern, to to the wonderfully representative West Coast themes. All of our pottery is hand made by local British Columbia Artists who have spent years perfecting their craft.

I really enjoy this shop. While tiny, it is filled with many delights for the eye to explore! They have a beautiful varied selection of solely BC-made: jewelry, pottery and sculptures, wooden dishwares, soaps and things, cards, and so on.
It's truly a delight to be able to support so many local artists by walking through one door.

This wonderful little gem of a shop offers a truly unique shopping experience for locals and visitors alike. Knowing that every item in Side Street Studio is handcrafted by local B.C. artists is reason enough to want to explore the rich and diverse range of merchandise within. There are tasteful gift ideas for every budget too, which is a refreshing change from many boutique and gallery shops. The staff are always friendly and knowledgable, which makes every visit to Side St. Studio a pleasure.

I was back online to Side Street recently, and purchased two hand-crafted pendants for the ladies in my life -- they share my love of nature, and I thought these creations truly-captured some of the "little guys" they so love and enjoy:
- glass pendant ("tidepool") for my lady -- rocky beaches, tidepools, and the fantastic creatures that inhabit them, artistically-created and captured in a small piece of glass.

This is a lovely boutique that sells local items only - BC artists of all types are represented. Gorgeous jewellery and ceramics, textiles and soaps. There are well-priced items for nice gifts as well as beautiful, large pieces of art. Definitely worth a stop if doing the Oak Bay high street stroll!
