Wow this place is so nice. We hiked Eagle Trail, out n back took us 2.5 hrs. Great views, bisons everywhere, less crowd, red sand and lot of gypsum deposits. Wish I had the whole week to explore the park instead of one day.

Phenomenal views everywhere you look. We were at Caprock and Palo Duro on the same weekend. Both are amazing, but for different reasons. We didn't hike much at Caprock due to time, but the trails we did hike were well maintained. Seeing the Bison was one of the best parts of the park. We will certainly be back to hike more of the trails!

Stunning scenery in an enormous park. This place is immersive and absolutely gorgeous. Be sure that your gear is rated for extremes. I visited earlier this week and underestimated how vicious the wind chill would be - so I had to bail halfway through my visit to keep myself and my dog safe.
Being surrounded by all of the beautiful scenery and animals is overwhelming and awe-inspiring, but it was a challenging experience with a dog. As it turns out, the things that make a boisterous and loud dog an asset in bear country make them a liability in Bison country. I would recommend that if you bring

Best hidden gem in Texas. This is one of the less well known Texas State Parks but it is by far the most extraordinary. It truly captures the spirit of the history of Texas. It has great hiking trails, excellent camp sites and amazing wildlife not to mention captivating landscapes. Absolutely always bring plenty of water at any time of year.

We hiked North Prong Spur trail and it was beautiful! Definitely would recommend you bring more water than you think you need, promise it will be worth it. Be sure to get a day pass ahead of time as slots fill up early. (Would recommend as well you go in the winter as it gets exceedingly hot after 9 am)

It says it all when you are warned of free range bison as you enter the park. Computer had issues with reservation but volunteers and staff made it work out just great. You should see the canyon at sunrise. I was so busy enjoying that forgot to take a pic for an hour! Prairie dogs are all over, even an escape hole in the road, lol.

Great time! Only had time for one trail and the scenic drive. Will definitely come back for overnight camping in the early summer before heat is an issue. Not much sun cover here. Beautiful trails and well maintained area.

Loved the park. Great hikes that are moderately challenging. Beautiful views and no shortage of wildlife. However the flies were relentless from sun up to sundown. Be prepared. I'll be back once I figure out how to deal with that.

Great place to hike but very hot if it's sunny. The river/creek was dry as a bone and didn't get to see too many buffalo but the hiking is great and elevation gain is good exercise. Saw some people with pets but overall not too crowded. Interesting rock formations and there are several trails to explore. Will definitely be back.

Beautiful park! I camped out for a couple of nights at the Little Red Campground. Keep your eyes open as the buffalo will wander into your camp site to graze. I also did a 7 mile hike. The scenery is great. I took the bat tour to clarity tunnel. I thought it would be a quick trip to see the bats come out of the cave. It’s actually a 3 hour tour of the trailway with a park ranger who tells you the history of the park and the area. I was very pleasantly surprised. I would suggest going in the spring or fall when it starts to cool down. It gets really hot. Take plenty of water. Overall I loved it
