The company was then purchased by Frank Johnson in 1979, moved downstairs to a 1200 sq.ft. When my wife and I purchased the company we asked Frank why he called it Acorn. Frank claimed "from the little acorn comes the great oak", so we decided to keep the name and try and live up to it". Acorn Welding has grown to become Canada's largest aircraft exhaust and engine mount company.
Acorn Welding has been keeping the old girls flying like new for many years. We are the largest source of Radial Exhaust for aircraft in the world.
From the Canadian Classics like the deHavilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver, DHC-3 Otter, and the Noorduyn Norseman to the Legendary Lockheed L-1049 Super Constellation and Curtiss C-46 Commando, exhaust build by Acorn Welding's Vintage Aircraft Division produces enough exhaust to equip 70 Aircraft annually with new exhaust. We have engines, patterns, templates, and tooling for more than 30 different engine models and we are constantly add more.

Your engine mounts are one of the higher stressed parts of your aircraft and for this reason, you should only allow qualified and experienced hands to service it. Here at Acorn, the process starts with the engine mounts being media blasted so that every area of concern is revealed, then on to our experienced QC department.
It only stands to reason that you would want to put your fuel tank into qualified hands for repair. Removing a leaking fuel tank from an aircraft is a job you only want to do once. Welded by qualified and experienced technicians every fuel tank repair receives three leak tests - an air pressure leak test, a liquid fill leak test and finally a liquid penetrant inspection.
These narrow body aircraft are essentially the same fuselage as a Cessna 180 or 185. With an average stock empty weight of 1540lb, these models are significantly lighter than later 182 models and are very attractive to many for this reason as a floatplane. This STC incorporates a complete fuselage conversion package including reinforced firewall, heavy duty float style engine mount, and updated Acorn Welding Exhaust.

In July we needed a new Exhaust System for our Waco UPF-7 and with the summer flying season winding down thought we were probably down for the season-after a call to Don at Acorn, he said he could supply a complete new unit in 2 weeks. We received a beautiful new system that fit perfectly within 3 1/2 weeks and this included several days in customs clearing! Thanks for a quality piece of art in a timely manner.

I needed some advice about my Piper Turbo Saratoga exhaust and Acorn Welding was the only aviation exhaust company that got back to me within 12 hours and had answers. Ended-up, I didn't even need to buy anything from them, but they treated me as if I was a long-time customer. In the future, when I am looking for anything related to my airplane's exhaust system, Acorn will be my first call just because of how they treated me.

Had been struggling for an entire day to mount an IO-550-D to an overhauled engine mount. We were convinced the mount was no good. After a series of phone calls, we found out about Acorn Welding as they had an another overhauled unit in stock. Not even a minute on the phone with Paul and he knew what our problem was. Within half an hour I had detailed installation instructions and an explanation of how to do things properly. Big thank you to Paul! You guys will be at the top of our call list next time for any of our exhaust or welding needs!
