During an age when basements were used for coal, storage and the occasional party, GJ MacRae was one of the first contractors to see the benefits of a dry, fully usable basement. We are also considered one of the first companies in the region to have used the term "Foundation Repair" back in the late 1970's.
Waterproofing and drainage considerations are especially needed in cases where groundwater is likely to build up in the soil and potentially raise the water table. This higher water table causes hydrostatic pressure to be exerted underneath basement floors and against basement walls.

Concrete is a very sturdy building material (thanks to the Roman empire), but it offers very little flexibility in the wake of settlement, shifting and overall natural levels of porousness.

We had GJ Macrae underpin our 1890s house in Leslieville over the summer. The team showed up on time every day, the project moved so smoothly. I wish I had another basement for them to underpin.
Highly recommend GJ Macrae for any basement or underpinning work. The final result looks fantastic, we have a beautiful basement, with nice tall ceilings!

I highly recommend Dean and his entire crew! What I thought was only one leak was actually
Two leaks. After learning of the second leak Dean was there to save the day and fixed it right away
I can’t say enough of Oskar and his crew who worked tirelessly to fix the issues, they were fast efficient and always cleaned up after themselves at the end of the day!!!!! Any questions I had they took the time to explain and answer all of them.

Dean was very professional and efficient. The team arrived exactly when they said they would and did a great job. Even with a wrench thrown into the plan (we live in a link house that is connected to our neighbors house underground). We had multiple people come out to quote and GJ Macrae was the best of the best. I wouldn't trust my foundation to anyone else.

Had a fantastic experience with this company. I had two different leaks in my foundation. They were able to come and deal with the issues very quickly unlike other companies who wanted me to wait 2 months to even get a quote. The gentlemen they sent over were very quick but also very polite and did great work. Hopefully I'm finished with foundation repair now and my house decides to behave itself ;-)

G. J. MacRae repaired two leaks in my basement foundation in 2009. A few weeks ago one of the repaired areas started to leak again. Within a week of being made aware of the problem the work was completely repaired at no cost to me because they honored their 15 year warranty.
I have recommended them to many of my neighbours over the years and will continue to do so because of the high quality of their work and customer service.

Moved into my house to find a small flood in the basement every time it rained. I called GJ MacRae and was greeted warmly by Noreen. Dean came out the next day to conduct an estimate. Normally I get a few quotes before deciding on who is best for the job, but Dean instilled an immediate sense of trust. No pushy sales or scare tactics. The work was done in less time than estimated and the crew even fixed up some other parts of my concrete floor that needed adjusting - a couple of holes and a large hump in the ground that they jackhammered out and smoothed with new concrete. Had Dean and his crew repair our 1896 stone foundation at our restaurant in Waterdown. Amazing price, outstanding work, completed on time and not a penny over the original price. Dean talked about every step, bringing obstacles to our attention and remedies for every bump in the process. His guys are friendly and hard working, hardest working trade on site!! We're getting them back to do more foundation work as there is no other company out there like GJ MacRae. If 10 stars was available, I'd give them 11.

GJ Macrae made what could have been a bad experience a great one! Right from the beginning they were professional and courteous. The contractors that came to my house were polite and tidy. They did an amazing job with the waterproofing of the basement...and putting it back in tip top shape! I would I highly recommend for anyone with problems in the foundation or basement. Great experience overall! I found them to be professional and quick to respond to my questions and concerns. Leaky basements are NO fun. Thankfully I called GJ Macrae. The contractors who came to repair the issue were professional and clean. Left my basement in better order than when they arrived. All in all a good experience. Since the repair i have a couple calls to be sure all is well.
