South Cooking Lake Greenhouses
From May to July, customers are happy to find that South Cooking Lake Greenhouses provides for all of their Gardening Needs. Most of our plants are grown right on the premises, and our own special blend of potting soil is a big seller.

We also carry seeds, seed potatoes, garlic and onion sets as well as peat moss and ProMix, fertilizers, insecticides and herbicides, tools, and all kinds of Gardening Accessories to make your Yard and Patio look spectacular.Over the years, we have provided the plants and other materials for many big Landscape and City Beautification projects.
Services
Green Goliath - large headed blue green variety bred especially for the home gardener. Plants can be harvested over a three week period as new side shoots continue to form after the center head is harvested. Quickstar - wonderful little known vegetable that produces ball shaped bulbs above the ground.
We offer a selection of cucumber transplants that are superior in both production, disease resistance and growth habit to those commonly found on seed stands. Patio Snacker (52 days) - semi bush variety with dark green 8 inch slicing. Extra dwarf plant has half the vine of other slicing cucumbers which makes it a great choice for container gardening.
Although lettuce can be seeded directly into the garden, we sell lettuce transplants that will give you an early crop until your direct seeded lettuce matures. Great Lakes Head - crisp iceberg lettuce that resists bolting (going to seed) in the summer heat. Buttercrunch - butterhead lettuce valued for its thick, tender leaves that melt in your mouth.
Tomatoes are by far our number one selling garden vegetable, and because everyone has a favourite, we grow over 30 varieties including Heirloom. The following list does not represent ALL of the varieties that we carry. Come in and see for yourself! Over the years we have been asked many questions about how to grow tomatoes.

This is a great local family run greenhouse. The plants are well taken care of and the selection is great. I prefer to source the majority of my annuals from here as opposed to other options nearby.

This is the second year that I have bought annuals from South Cooking Lake Greenhouse. Even though I have visited later in the season, I was able to find a great selection of flowers for our planters. I’m happy to able to support such a good local business.

Love this greenhouse. Family owned, they grow most of their own stock (others bring in from BC and the stock may not be best for our climate), great healthy plants, amazing prices. I shop here every year for the best plants and flowers.

I love the size and community atmosphere of SCL. This year, I purchased corn that was labelled Bi-Color. I did not realize until I planted it at home that it did not specify the variety, so I called the greenhouse. I discovered that SCL plants two varieties of corn. "Sweetness" is the first type and "Cafe" - both by Verseys. From the Verseys website, I was able to determine the characteristics, including a 68 day growth cycle. It would be helpful to have that information available on either the plant label or on a sign in the vegetable section of the store.

Very impressed with this greenhouse!! Absolutely massive with a huge variety of garden & flower bed plants. Healthy, lovely plants!
I asked how long they’ve open (July) as I plan on going back and getting some house plants!!
Oh, btw, they’ve widened the walkways, concrete and wide enough for the carts.
Friendly knowledgeable staff, family run business. 5 stars.

Great prices on baskets, best I found in the region. Worth the drive!!! Really pretty arrangements Starting from $18! Rest of the plants priced about the same as other greenhouses in the area. Lots of selection, service was good, but not great. Perennials vs. annuals aren’t as well identified as other greenhouses for more novice gardeners, but just ask & they’ll help you out . Fantastic selection of tomatoes. Aisles could be a bit wider to allow for carts.

Why go to any box store or grocery store greenhouse when this place is massive and cheaper than any store I was at before. The plants are so strong in my experience. We had tomatoes that were the best.

I just love this place!I have been going to South Cooking Lake Greenhouses for many, many years. It is a family run business that has really grown and come into it's own. Most of their product is superior in size and quality to the big boys in the business and easier on the pocket book. They are friendly and knowledgeable.Harold or Sharon are always close by if the staff can't answer a question or make a suggestion.Like I said "I just love this place". Strathcona County and Edmonton's best kept secret for us gardeners.

Wow! I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent condition of each and every plant. I was more blown away by the reasonable prices of their excellent stock. They are friendly and knowledgeable. This is definitely going to be my greenhouse of choice. Their competitors charge way too much money for their mediocre quality product. At South Cooking Lake, you can get an 14" tomato plant for $3.00!!! And it's beautifully maintained. That's just the beginning. I recommend you go see it for yourself. Wow!
