Fillings are used for repairing broken or cracked teeth. They are also used for repairing worn out teeth. While performing the treatment, the dentist removes the decayed part of the tooth, cleans the area which has been affected before cleaning out the cavity using filling material. A filling helps in checking further decay by closing the spaces through which bacteria can enter.
Inlays and onlays are regarded as 'indirect' fillings since they are fabricated outside a patient's mouth before being bonded to a tooth. The procedures for inlay as well as onlay are same.
