Services
SMP's basic electrical engineering services include involvement in all project phases, when required, from pre-design through to post-construction. Architectural lighting designers operate in a unique field - marrying art and science by harnessing the psychological properties of light to enhance and define the experience of a space.
Through SMP's various initiatives since the company's inception, our team has made a positive impact to the community through our contributions of sharing knowledge, donating time, and fundraising. Since 2011, SMP has partnered with local charities in Alberta which receive 100% of funds raised through registrations and sponsorship through our biennial mini-putt event held in our Calgary office.
In 2020, SMP organically formed an internal Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Committee. Initially inspired by APEGA's "30 by 30 Initiative" to have women comprise 30% of professional members in engineering and geoscience by the year 2030, the D&I Committee's focus has been on gender equality within the firm and industry, with a path forward to explore other D&I initiatives.
Completed through an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) model, the Soraya Hafez School can accommodate up to 600 elementary students in grades K-6. Designed utilizing 21st century learning concepts, each area of the school was considered for use as a learning space. Targeting LEED Silver certification, this project integrates many sustainable initiatives including onsite power generation through solar photovoltaic (PV) design.
Located in the established community of Larkspur in Edmonton, the Thelma Chalifoux School can accommodate up to 900 students in grades 7 to 9. Designed to achieve LEED Silver certification, this project integrates many sustainable initiatives including strategic lighting design to minimize power consumption and onsite power generation through solar photovoltaic (PV) design.
