Curry Original
At long last, a compilation of the well-loved recipes of Curry Original in Kingston, Ontario. Established by Ali and Weais Afzal in 1985, Curry Original has long been serving delicious Bangladeshi and Mogul (mughlai) fare. To say that Curry Original is a local treasure would be honest. To say that the restaurant is Kingston's secret would not be so true.

Curry Original restaurant has received reviews in Kingston as well as in guides like "Where To Eat in Canada" from 1999 to 2015.
Services
The moment you walk into Curry Original you are greeted with authentic Indian culture, from the artworks adorning the walls to the rich spicy aromas. TL;DR - threw this food out right away and ordered Indian food elsewhere. Needed my taste buds to forget this embarrassing take on Indian food.
Saying this place is an extreme disappointment would be an understatement. As an individual from Toronto that has had the opportunity to try multiple takes on Indian cuisine, this ranks far below anything I've ever had. The expensive pricing (considering the quality of the food) is an additional kick in the gut. I feel bad for the people that think the food here is good - I assure you, this is NOT good Indian food.

We like Indian food a lot and have eaten it in many places in many countries.
We’ve visited Curry Original a number of times. Their food can be really good sometimes. Great naan and samosas. No complaints about the service. Price is average for this town. That’s why I gave it two stars.
The issue is that we’ve eaten there twice when the food (one time lamb madras, the other chicken korma) was so sweet that it was inedible. It was like eating candies. If you look at some reviews here, you’ll find others have suffered the same fate. I cannot understand why they would do this.

Inauthentic food and subpar customer service. As an Indian person, I have never had curries that taste like this, especially like their butter chicken. There is no spice and very minimal Indian flavours. Do not order the butter chicken if you are looking for a traditional take on this Indian classic - butter chicken at this restaurant is sweet and yellow. Very disappointing.
I called the restaurant asking to have something a bit more traditional and was disappointed by their response that this is the "Kingston version of butter chicken" and that they wouldn't do anything for me. I would recommend

It was a very bad experience. We ordered Shrimp Phatia on the server's recommendation, it turned out to be too sweet and tasted like honey. When we asked them to replace it with another dish- Shrimp Jalfrezi, it was partially cooked, poorly cooked spices and vegetables were raw tasting. Poor judgement of spices like turmeric powder and we probably got an extra helping of chilli powder in our dish, since we complained!
Never going back again. Wish had a better experience!

Highly recommend Tanduri Chicken, nun, and Barfi. Food was very fresh, mouthwatering, and the environment was clean. On another occasion tried lamb dishes - Korma, Rogan Josh. It melts in the mouth. Definitely a must go if you crave for freshly cooked high quality Indian food in Kingston.

We had a wonderful dinner at Curry Original’s new location. The food is as good as ever and the service is wonderful. Everything was cooked perfectly and the portions were generous. So many wonderful flavours layered on top of each other! I’m going to be back as soon as I can!

Definitely the best curry in the area! We come here every time we visit my boyfriend's parents. It's always fresh and delicious. My favorites are the lamb korma and the beef dhansak. It's always very flavorful. I have the cookbook too but it never seems to come out right for me.

Ive been trying to write a review on google but it wouldn’t let me so . I’m writing it here.
I visited Curry Original on a recent trip to Kingston and had the most wonderful experience there. The staff was… very friendly and attentive, the atmosphere of a 100 year old stone building hidden away down a walking path in the heart of the city and the wonderful decor made it a very welcoming place. The food is authentic and very good. I have travelled extensively and been in search of the perfect curry for years. I believe I found it here. I ordered the vindaloo, my favourite of the

Curry Original is the worst Indian restaurant I've ever eaten at. They screwed up the rice, the spice, watched me eat the whole time. I had to leave afte5a few bites and take it to go because I was so uncomfortable. I couldn't recommend them less.

I enjoyed dinner at Curry Original for the first time tonight. The service was great (I was rushing to catch a ferry and the gentlemen did a wonderful job of accommodating me) and the food was delicious as was… my cocktail. Veg options which is most important to me. The curry and the garlic naan were awesome. I WILL be back. Be prepared to pay for parking.

The curries and naan were amazing, I had the Chicken Korma and my husband had a Tikka curry. The decor is also something to mention as it all looks hand painted. I really enjoyed the feast for the tummy and the eyes.

Imagine being transported to an unforgettable culinary experience through a rich tapestry of smells, flavour and colour.

Now imagine the polar opposite and you will have arrived at Curry Original. Never has there been a greater oxymoron in a restaurant name.

Our dishes, although edible (they were cooked well), bore no resemblance to any Indian or Pakistani dish I've ever eaten, and was most certainly absent of curry.

Our tandoor inspired butter chicken was white. I mean cream of mushroom soup white - containing none of the tomato or garam masala that you might expect.

They are fooling people in the name of Indian food. I ordered chicken biriyani from here and it was rice fried in turmeric with pieces if dry chicken breast. The biriyani tasted bitter from the burnt turmeric. Anybody who's tasted real biriyani would know this is not it...what a waste of money. Never again!!!

First impressions are everything.

Aroma in Toronto may the best curry in Canada. Certainly the best out of Toronto, Vancouver (Vij is for people who have never eaten anywhere else, and is his invention, and ego, not the traditional rich tapestry that comprise the many cuisines of India) and Montreal (ugh, Devi on Crescent is passable on certain days, but overly expensive. I love the chef, do not get me wrong, and he was trained in India at one of the top hotels in the world, just make certain he is there before you order). I have had some amazing curry in LA, the old Tandoori Nights, which used

My girlfriend and I finally found ourselves at the Curry Original for lunch a few weeks back. I've been wanting to eat here forever...

As soon as we were shown to our seats, our glasses were being filled with water and a papadam was on our table. The glass of water is a little thing but I think it speaks volumes in customer service - something others restaurants should take note of. Personally I hate having to always ask for one.

To start, the "papadam" was amazing. I could of easily of had just them for lunch... I was pretty happy when he brought out a few more.
