Our firm demonstrates a strong commitment to community leadership with our team members involved in a wide variety of professional, charitable, cultural, service and fraternal organizations. Some examples include Rotary, Kiwanis, Guelph Chamber of Commerce and Guelph Hospital Boards and Foundations.
Kaitlyn holds a Juris Doctor, a Master of Arts in Political Science, and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario. While attending law school, Kaitlyn was an executive member of the Student Legal Society, Co-Chair of the Community Outreach Committee and Caseworker at Community Legal Services.
Jamie is a civil litigator who predominantly practices in condominium litigation, and municipal and land use planning law. In his practice, Jamie helps individuals, corporations, and governments resolve their contentious matters. He applies his interests in research and legislation to resolve disputes, and to help clients navigate challenging approval processes.
Robert Dowhan (Bob) is the former Managing Partner and the senior partner in the Insurance and Civil Litigation Practice Groups with a primary focus on Insurance litigation and a particular interest where litigation involves property. Bob also works with Employers and Employees with respect to workplace matters including wrongful dismissal and human rights.
Michelle Dwyer practices in the areas of family law, criminal law and provincial offences. She is a certified practitioner of collaborative family law and assists clients with negotiation, mediation, arbitration and litigation. Michelle represents clients at the Ontario Court of Justice, the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Appeal.

SV law in collaboration with SHABRI PROPERTIES illtreated me and made my life miserable because of their greed for money. They were bent on perpetrating this wicked act while abandoning humanity and compassion especially in this pandemic. I had only lived in my home for barely over 2 months and these wicked people maliciously imposed a payment of almost 400% to what I originally owe, despite explaining my family situation and the negative impact of the pandemic on me.

I hired Michael Ruhl to represent me in a divorce. As a woman, I felt he wasn't respectful of me at all. He certainly didn't fight for me and just scoffed at things I would say. Which later he admitted I was right and called me "smart". It was an awful experience. I expected much better conduct of a senior partner, and would never recommend SV Law to anyone.

My wife and I recently worked with E.J. Stross at the Smith Valeriote Law Firm in Guelph to oversee the purchase of our new home. SmithValeriote in Fergus took care of our Wills & Powers of Attorney. We were very happy with the service. The lawyer took the time to explain the documents in detail and went above and beyond to answer all of our questions. He even took the time to talk to my mom about her situation!!!
