I have been staying at the Govnor Inn for almost 8 years now, and I have to say that I love everything about this place. From the rooms, to the excellent food, and I call them Family like staff. They are all exceptional people and their experience shows in every thing they do.
I have recommended this place so many times. I want to say hi to Patrick at the front desk, Rita the Manager, Heather the best server in the world and the many more staff. Thank you for treating me so well every time I visit you, to get a break in my life. Your friend Vaughan

Great food and service as always experienced here. In fact we ended up going twice in one week.
First time for the hot turkey sandwich, the next for the Easter dinner special.
Always tasty and plentiful portions.
Kevin happened to be our server on both occasions. Friendly/great service.
Highly recommend the food here.

Been frequenting the Gov'Nor for over 20 years and am always pleased with the experience. Washrooms (and therefore I assume the kitchen also) is always very clean.
I wrote the above review a few years ago but neglected to post it. Today almost completely changed my mind. I've found over the past few years, the service you get depends on what staff are working. The staff that have been there for years and years are so good at taken care of you.

Seems as though the quality of food has improved again and I'm happy to say that the Gov'nor is becoming one of my favourite places to eat again. I've now had breakfast, brunch and lunch at the restaurant and the food has been great! Excellent portions and comes hot. Service has improved greatly and staff seem genuinely happy to work there and provide service. Menu is extensive and well proportioned!

Very serene, with excellent choices of traditional Newfoundland folk music and we had a well mannered server.
The front signs states "Please Be Seated" however most signs in other restaurant states "Please wait to be seated" or "Seat yourselves" threw us off.
Our meal came promptly I had the steak and eggs brunch! My partner had Eggs Benedict, it looks absolutely scrumptious!
About to dive in!
So far it's excellent, it'd do you well to stop in here for an affordable brunch and a look; you won't be disappointed.

Great pub atmosphere for a pint but the quality of their food and service has really changed for the worst. Their Beef Dipper was once the best in town but is terrible now. Same for the pan fried cod.
Service by the wait staff has also gotten worse with a high turn over. On the night we were there, orders were exceedingly late and both of ours were wrong.
It's a shame really - was once one of my favourite go to places for a pint and pub grub in a great setting.

I'm a fan for three reasons: 1) the pints, 2) the atmosphere, and 3) the onion rings.
Nothing else about this place is extraordinary, but not bad either. It's one of my favourite places in St. John's to get a beer and a burger. Oh, and always start with onion rings. Might need to go back more than once to get the really great onion rings, but if you get the cooks on a good night they (the onion rings) are the best in town.
Most times the service is good - had one annoying guy once who made fun of us for asking what kind of wings they had. ("Any kind you want." "

Had a late night meal at The Guv'nor Pub, and walked away very full and impressed. The atmosphere is great, with lots of knick-knacks and plenty of 'old world' charm. The food was good, and portions were big (we split the Guv'nor's Feast and weren't able to finish it). Service was amazing. We definitely plan on going back.

This is my favourite place for breakfast in St. John's, everything is so delicious! I recommend trying the breakfast skillet, it has scrambled eggs, hash browns, cheese and hollandaise sauce plus you can add in a lot of different meats and veggies (for cost of course!) The wait time for our food did take a while, but it was well worth it - and the staff were really nice!

Be warned, the wait time for any service is unreal. It was a Saturday night when I arrived at this pub, the decor is very Irish/Pub-ish as I was told by my table. The food was alright, but the wait time is very notice-able.
They do have a handful of traditional cooked meals, but I couldn't bare the wait for my next adventure.
