I bought a ramshackle character home in downtown Nanaimo and recruited my family as the reno crew. Thanks to their grit and patience - and my amateur design skills - we were able to open Violet Hair Lounge 10 long months later. After occupying our quaint location for 7 years we were bursting at the seams.

Owned and operated by Master Stylist Angie Gignac, our salon is proof that dreams do come true.

With every step we take in the salon, we think about the planet. The brands we partner with and our practices within the salon place a huge emphasis on conserving our environment. The ugly truth about the beauty industry is that we produce a ton of plastic and chemical waste that usually ends up in the landfill and our water sources.
Even when we don't have a specific position open, we always want to hear from great stylists. Our stylists are encouraged to focus on work/life balance. Flexible hours are also available because we believe that you know what works best for you and your clients. We're always learning and furthering our education in the ever-changing hair industry to ensure the salon is up to date and on trend with all the latest styles and techniques.

I started going to Violet Lounge a year ago when I moved to Nanaimo because they had online booking. I continued going because of the atmosphere, the location, and most of all because of my stylist Ocea. Not only is she an absolute delight, she knows how to cut my terribly thin, fine hair. 10/10 recommend Ocea and Violet Lounge.

The stylist I saw didn’t know how to texturize and thin the ends of my thick hair into a straight across cut so it didn’t look blunt and bulky on the ends. I’ve had this done well by many stylists in my day, so I would say she was lacking skills even though I asked to see a “master stylist.” I’m not happy with my cut. UPDATE: I work long hours during the week, and when I asked for another stylist or the owner to come do a corrective cut on the weekend, they refused saying I could only get it corrected by Mary, the one who cut it in the first place, or come in on a weekday. Violet Hair Lounge is literally the best hair salon in Nanaimo! Summer did my hair and I am so pleased with the results! I got baby lights / balayage and a trim. I am extremely picky with how my hair is done, and am usually never satisfied with the results, but with Summers work I was pleasantly surprised! Couldn't be more happy! I'm not a local and was looking for a haircut and color. Ocea did an amazing job with my 3 year old daughter who is on the spectrum. My daughter hates having her hair brushed, washed, or even tied back. We had been dreading a haircut for 2 years. But Ocea was kind, professional, and quick! With the help of a screen and jelly beans, her shoulder length bob was done in no time and looks so much better. Would recommended over and over.

Amazing tech and service! Autumn was a friendly voice on the phone who took her time to find the right appointment for me. (Text and email reminders were great). Walking in, the space is very open and warm, lots of natural light and by design is very pandemic conscious. Very clean spaced apart stations and dividers where necessary, make you feel safe. This salon is awesome. Summer is an amazing stylist. She never disappoints. She is straight forward and has amazing knowledge of her craft. She has corrected a bad color and an even worse cut that I came to her with. I love that she is consistent with her cuts and color. So appreciative of this salon and this stylist.
