Located within Deer Park Public School, our Toddler and Preschoolers are engaged in Enriched Learning and Development programming. As a third party provider for the TDSB, we offer before and after school care for Kindergarten through to Grade Six, from September to June. The summer program runs for seven weeks beginning in July and ending the two weeks preceding Labour Day.

Services
Heath and Ferndale Child Care Program was founded in 1975 as Heath Street Day Care, providing care for thirty-five children between the ages of six and nine. Today we offer our well established programs to over 200 children and their families, ages 18 months to 13 years. Our licensed non-profit centre is operated by qualified Educators and Administrators.
The staff at Heath and Ferndale is a team of caring and dedicated professionals. They work hard to communicate with parents through daily feedback and displays of the children's work and use their talents in art, music and other languages to enhance our programming.
Heath and Ferndale also offers and supervises exceptional practicum opportunities for students who are enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program from various Colleges and Universities in the Greater Toronto Area.Our placement students are an integral part of our childcare. They enhance our program with their original and innovative activities, planned field trips and/or special visitors.

As someone who worked relief shifts there I have seen how burned out the staff in the toddler and preschool rooms are and it negatively affects the quality of childcare. The staff treat the children like an inconvenience if they cry or have behavioural or emotional regulation issues. Not a very nurturing or positive environment for children - especially those on the spectrum or with trauma.

The staff are friendly and helpful but it can be challenging from time to time to talk to them as they seem to be short-handed. We also found out that the executive director of this child care centre hired her own non-ECE daughter and her friend to look after kids, who were inexperienced/untrained. Children injuries spiked as a result of it, which is the worst nightmare of parents. Quite concerned how the centre is managed and why they would allow conflict of interest to happen at the expense of children's safety.
