If you're on Groupon and thinking that buying cooking lessons may be a good idea, spare yourself.
I bought the coupon on February and had a lesson booked since March 25 for June 1st. The coupon expires June 14 and my due date for delivering my baby is July 3rd. I called Chef Russell twice to reschedule but he was very firm and let me know that all the other dates are full.
Come May 23, he texts me telling me he doesn't have enough people enrolled for June 1st and if I can attend May 25th. Yes!! 2 days before the ask is when he contacted me. May 25th was my baby shower so no, I couldn't go. He

Best GroupOn I have experienced. Very rare that the owner actually teaches the class. he shared so many cooking tips for everyone that we felt this was a bargain price for the amount of info you get. Book ASAP very full. He's actually hilarious and was not disappointed to eat sushi at with the trade off of learning everything from SCRATCH. Highly recommend very HANDS-ON.

I would never support any services from the Penthouse Catering. There are other cooking classes you can find for this price that provide a better experience. It was hard to book this class and get a hold of Chef Russell. I tried to book this class and called, and the chef was very rude, even hung up on me at one point. He was very unprofessional. This is also evident in the way he replies to feedback on reviews as well. I would not support this service ever. I decided to cancel, and it was extremely difficult to reach Groupon's customer service. I decided to message Groupon on Twitter to inform

I have been waiting to take a sushi class for a long time! 3 hours drive to Toronto and 3 hours home. It was WORTH IT! ALL HANDS ON. I am comfortable saying I can make a decent Sushi after just one class. How many cooking classes, or other classes for that matter, have you taken and felt you did enough of yourself that you can do it alone? For me not 1 and I have done a lot of courses and classes. Chef Russell is not just an expert himself, he knows how to teach. If you get the opportunity to attend any class he leads, do yourself a favour and take it! You leave wanting more :)

Do not recommend booking with penthouse catering. The chef was incredibly rude and was not very accommodating. I was personally attacked when I requested a refund (even a day after the issue was resolved). See photos attached.
Even if I was on the wrong side of this argument personally attacking someone and beating a dead horse is the exact opposite of what customer service is.
If you're reading this, I really hope you learn how to deal with customers in a friendly matter.
Judging by the amount of similar reviews who are saying the same thing, it's kind of astonishing how the chef still thinks

Our instructor, Chef Russell, was super personable and knowledgeable. Even though the class was about sushi I learned so many cooking tips then just how to make that. Super hands on and I like how basically started from scratch. Chef Russell is approachable and welcomes lots of questions to which is nice. I also really liked how everyone had to work together. Had a great time, thanks Chef Russell!

WORST COMPANY EVER!!! Would give no stars if possible, I'd rather burn my money than give it to Penthouse Catering. Their staff were rude from the beginning. From originally booking a class, to having it cancelled twice. The first time, they had a facility problem. Fine, things happen. Trying to reschedule a class could not have been more painful. While texting for a new date, by the time I responded (within 20 minutes) the date offered was no longer available. They finally offered a new date for the August long weekend after we asked to be wait-listed. Their policy requires customers to cancel

Had a fun time while learning how to make sushi and the second time on how to make Thai food. Great teacher!!! It was a true learning experience which enabled me to be able to feel comfortable about making these items at home. Classes are about 10 - 11 people so you get great one-on-one help should you need it. How do you recommend these classes

Would not recommend booking with Penthouse catering as they like to cancel your booking the day of the cooking lesson even after receiving confirmation the day before. As well, every encounter with the staff through text or phone has been quite unpleasant and unprofessional. The chef was was quite offensive with words via text exchange as well. Based off of other reviews on yelp and other platforms, others sadly also received similar treatment.

I'd just like to ask why is it ok to be treated this way as a customer when I'm just trying to support your business and get what I paid for

Came to write an amazing review about Russell's sushi making classes, was kind of heartbroken to see all these negative reviews about his cooking classes because they were honestly so much fun! Would definitely recommend to a friend or family. Whether you're a novice or a professional chef it's always nice to try out cooking as a group, especially with a head chef with a sort of Gordan Ramsey type of finesse.

**WARNING: BUY OR BEWARE**

I purchased a Groupon cooking class and called in to schedule a time before the expired date, and was told there would be no classes available before the expired date of December 16, 2018. Russell was able to waive this expired date and reschedule for February 10 (today) for 11am. However, upon arriving at the location this morning, no one was present at the location and the door was locked. I tried to contact him, and we weren't able to get in touch with him for 30 minutes before he picked up his call.

He claimed that he messaged me that the class was cancelled

DO NOT USE

Also found them through Chef Russell Groupon (sushi making class.) Spent $100 on a class as a holiday present for us and our son to do together. Called to book and got answer machine, "disconnected" number, etc. No return calls to messages. Finally got Russell on the phone and he was rude and evasive. Started by asking whether our Groupon had expired (it had not,) then followed up asking what date it expired. Not expecting a trap, I told him what date. He insists they have no availability before that date, nothing until April (2 months from now.) We said that's

We are a couple that we really like making sushi so we bought Chef Russell's sushi-making class in November . They contacted me twice in December and cancelled the class on the same day.when I asked for another day, he initially offered me a date that I was not available and he said that it is better to get my refund! Very unprofessional and rude! I never advise you to go for the class.

Owner is extremely rude and arrogant.

My mom purchased a Groupon for 2 classes - Thai and sushi. We tried calling to arrange a class time, and the owner was dismissive and cocky. He pretty much insinuated that my mom couldn't speak English, and was extremely short with us. We asked to speak to the manager and he said he was the owner.

We immediately received a refund from Groupon. Do not recommend!

I wish I searched for reviews before I purchase the Groupon for the sushi class. Similar to Nelly V.'s experience, I purchased this as a gift for a friend, called numerous times to make appointment but the classes were full - I was told not to worry about the voucher expiration date... then when I called again today, I was told that I waited too long, and that it is naive of me to think that I can use it for an "indefinite' time period.  Isn't that misleading then to tell me don't worry about the expiration date?!! It was then suggested to me that I can still use the value

I took the Thai cooking class with my partner and his family about 2 months ago. It was a fantastic experience that exceeded all my expectations for a group cooking class.
What impressed me most was how professional Chef Russell was. I was honestly surprised by how seriously he took the class! It never felt dumbed down, he spoke to us like competent adults and he made sure we were all working well together. I usually hate group project situations but the way the class was organized made it really fun to be part of a team actually.
Really no complaints here! We learned so much, cleanliness/food

This one's a "twofer" ... I've had the pleasure of both attending Chef Russell's sushi-making class initially and then subsequently sampling his catering. Sincerely ... five stars all round.

The class, booked by my gf, was far more enjoyable and fun (while still being instructive) than I could have ever expected. Chef Russell was very amiable, patient and knowledgeable. Took away some very useful pointers ... and who would have guessed our creations could be so tasty?

Then, his catering ... outstandingly creative, distinctive and delicious. Skilfully crafted and original

Review for sushi class:

Sushi was inedible because rice was bland, soggy - super watery. Needless to say, had to be thrown out.

You cook everything and don't get to sit and relax in over two hours. You also can't eat the sushi at the class. You must take it home which is not a great idea when you live an hour away and it's hot out.

Chef was nice and tried hard to make the class enjoyable - but I've taken many cooking classes (monthly), and this one I don't recommend.

With that in mind, and to be fair, the other members in the class seemed to be having fun.
