This place is a true neighbourhood gem. There's a reason there is often a lineup outside! Great coffee and tea, excellent pastries, and delicious food -- and the menu changes daily! I was impressed by the prices, too. Quite reasonable for such a gourmet spot! Definitely by go-to for interesting takeout. And the staff! They're so genuinely sweet.

Got a wonderful lemon chiffon cake from Daniel et Daniel last weekend for a friend's birthday treat. Ordered it on Friday and picked it up on Saturday, beautifully decorated and with a special marzipan "Happy Birthday" banner. The cake was delicious, as is everything at D et D, and the service was great too!

Daniel et Daniel has been catering both in-person and take-home orders for my workplace over the past two years. Without a doubt, this is the most delicious catered food I have ever experienced.
What I appreciate about them the most is that the vegetarian options are made with just as much care (if not more, in my opinion!) than the meat options. Many other places treat the "veggie option" as a throwaway. Not Daniel et Daniel.

An order for six people for a double birthday and from the mushroom bisque soup, the broccoli salad, the braised short ribs in red wine sauce, mash potatoes, green beans and delicious Tiramisu cake not one complaint was heard as all items were delicious.

Daniel et Daniel are amazing! This past weekend I had the privilege to place an event order with them for a workshop at Cambium Farms.
The whole team was professional, very inclusive, and respectful....Daniel et Daniel was so engaging with me through emailing and phone calls and when it came to working around our specific event budget for meals they listened to us and offered the right products + services for our event.
Eveyone who attended the event, loved the eco-bowls, lemon squares, cheescake brownies + beverage selecitons that were ordered from them, everyone was coming up to me and saying

If you are weight watching this is definitely the place to give yourself a wholesome, delicious and superior treat.. Their desserts are awesome , baked on the premises with the highest standards of pastry and culinary excellence ! Their crime brûlée, tarts like key lime or fruit custard apricot or plums are fresh and bountiful. No skimping on calories here. They also have ready to go dinners, salads, appetizers and vegan selections. We have tried the snitzels , the parmigianas and exotic couscous salads so delectable, tasty and ample servings. We were very disappointed with the frozen tourtière. We followed the instructions on the box and even called to double check if it should be defrosted or cooked from frozen. We were told to defrost it first (even though it said on the box to cook from frozen)
After an hour at 350°F (with egg wash as per instructions) It looked beautiful out of the oven, but when we sliced it, the filling was extremely soggy, thin and watery. It looked like a vegetable soup with meat!
The pastry was hard and hollow with nothing inside because of the watery consistency of the filling!

A downtown gem. This place is the best. Try their carrot muffins...the best in the city for sure. Their croissants and coffee are also perfect. And a steal of a deal compared to many other places. Lovely hard to find grocery items and delicious quick lunch ideas to go!

Daniel et Daniel was my first foray into the neighbourhood of Cabbagetown and since they are on Carlton St. below where I'm staying for now, it made sense to check them out. (they are model neighbours too)
There's usually a lineup at typical times of the day, and keep in mind that only one person is allowed inside at a time for now.
Since I was ready for lunch, I asked for the roasted vegetables and fish to along with it. Check out my pics for details.
I didn't really know quantities and ended up with enough to have a second meal later in the day. The quality was excellent with everything

The best event caterer in Toronto! We had Daniel et Daniel cater our wedding and we only have amazing things to say about them! Their communication and service was incredible all throughout the planning process right through to the end of the event. Everyone absolutely loved the food and we got so many comments after the event about how great it was. For our event, Victor co-ordinated everything and he was such a pleasure to deal with! I have loved Daniel et Daniel since I first ate one of their goat cheese tartlets at a cocktail party some 25 years ago - my very first cocktail party as a new grad. And they continue to be my favourit caterer. I've used them many times for for birthday parties, work christmas dinners in my home and for a recent fundraising event I chaired. Guest ALWAYS love their food and I can always count on them to do terrific job.

This place is amazing. I came here for coffee and saw the macarons and just had to get them because I have a slight obsession. They were delightful and made well. I went back for a second coffee later in the day and had I not already packed a lunch I would have bought one of their many lunch items that looked absolutely delicious.

Delicious food, but customer service is a disaster. Have been passed over in line before for "regulars" who just walked in. Staff always seems confused and frazzled - there is either one overworked person behind the counter or five people getting in each other's way. It seems to have very high turnover if the frequent presence of a hiring sign in the window is any indication. Again, the food is delicious and the number of specialty groceries they have available in such a small space is impressive. We've ordered from D&D on several occasions (the short ribs are to die for), but recently had D&D cater our wedding in the Distillery District. They were absolutely impeccable. From high-quality service to the most delicious food, our wedding was beautiful and well organized in large part because of D&D. I wouldn't hesitant to recommend them as a caterer to any of our friends or family. They are top notch!

My first review was in 2012 (4 stars) but I decided to post an update because the customer service is horrible lately. I have been coming here for over 5 years but no more. Even though the food is amazing, I refuse to stand in line for 20 Minutes to be ignored when it is my turn and passed up for others who have just walked in. I was going to make a large purchase for a party but they lost out. Maybe get a ticketing system or staff that can acknowledge the people who have been waiting and making eye contact for 20 minutes.

They have a lot of choices for take out that's Vegetarian and Vegan friendly. The food is good but sometimes I think it's because it's so oily that it's the fat that makes it taste good.. Even the salads are very oily. But the staff are friendly and they do have 'healthier' choices for lunch so I can't complain much.

We worked with Jake from Daniel and Daniel for our wedding. He was absolutely fantastic! Always responsive, always available, great sense of style for decor, and easy to work with. He focused on the little things that made the night special, like adding edible flowers on the salad that matched our wedding colours, for example. He also made sure the night went perfectly, buying us wine at the end of the night when we ran out, and sticking around to ensure the flow of the wedding was perfect.

Whenever it's our turn to bring dessert to a family do, this is our go-to place. Huge success with the Lemon Chiffon Cake every time and every place we've ever taken it to. Birthday, anniversary, whatever, this is where we go.
And they make Parisian Macarons!
When I had my 50th, we sourced the cake here, and got a slab cake that they only do for events.
Best cake I've ever had!
Don't care what it cost, which wasn't unreasonable, it's a reason to throw a party, just to have an excuse to order another slab cake.

Yelp tells me this place is a lot more than I thought it was! I've only used the takeout side of things, but having tasted it, I would gladly let them cater my events.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. Once I stopped by wanting some assorted treats from my friend's birthday. I simply named my price, the occasion and what kind of tastes I was looking for and from that a worker assembled a beautiful box for me! It all came to just a few cents under what I has specified. He tied it with curly ribbon. Amazing. Everything he included was delightful and won over the crowd!
