Kung Fu For Life
If your only exposure to martial arts is through action movies, you might think that their main purpose is fighting and violence. You may think that there's not much difference between different styles, like karate and jiu jitsu and tae kwon do. You may even think that it's all about getting to a black belt as fast as you can.

But that's not accurate. And at Kung Fu for Life, located near the 39 Ave C-Train station just off Macleod Trail in Calgary, Alberta, we teach more than just martial arts. We teach a versatile discipline with many benefits for your physical and mental health. We teach mindfulness, respect, self-control, determination, and so much more.

The Art is a lot about personal mastery. The more I give to the art the more I receive. I came to learn self-defence and have been awarded other health and fitness benefits I never imagined. There's a lot of philosophy in Kung Fu and the longer that I'm here the more that recognize how the practice changes my character for the better.
BREATHING ARTS incorporates breath with slow movements, long held restorative stretches and meditation techniques. Students of all fitness levels are welcome. I started training at Kung Fu for life a few years ago and I can safely say it's one of the best things I have ever done. The staff are incredibly helpful and honest with you and are willing to just sit down and talk with you whenever you need to do so. They are always available for help should you need it, and seem to encourage you to take things at your own pace. Every time you walk in the door you are kindly greeted by one of the instructors who seems genuinely glad that you have decided to come in that day. The school itself feels feels like a community of people who all want to see each

There is no condition of "renounce all prior training". I myself have trained here for years and had a "black" belt in hard style karate prior. I have never been asked to forget previous training. In fact it has enhanced quality and strength of blocks.
I suggest the attitude was brought in by the prospective trainee.
Yes there are other great schools out there but come experience it yourself.
Always ask questions and make up your own mind.
I am but a student and always will be.

'They' will accept you if you're a beginner - or on the condition to renounce all prior training if you have martial arts / kung Fu experience.

You're not allowed to train with anyone else while going to this place.

Upon watching some videos of their school, I've concluded that it's not worth renouncing anything. On top of that, I received attitude from the owner.

I wouldn't train at any school that held a philosophy as narrow minded as this.

There are more open-minded & great schools & teachers out there. Keep looking.
